  1. Can't even throw Navarro in there? This is going to be ugly. #reversejinx
  2. Terrifying play. Glad he handled it like a boss.
  3. That's good to know. I have digital antenna so I will get FOX broadcasts, but was curious about MLB.TV for playoffs. Not sure how much FOX broadcasts and how much they offload to other networks.
  4. I said Zaun. Most of the list is a bag of tools, but I feel like Zaun should know better. I don't know if it's a devil's advocate type thing or not, but Zaun's stupid schtick rubs me the wrong way a lot more than just the pure incompetence of the others.
  5. Not sure I agree. Blowouts happen. If it means throwing MB in there so as to preserve better options for other closer games/situations. I don't think you need both MB and Hutch, but I think you need to have one of them. I'd choose MB.
  6. I feel like Sanchez either makes it in the rotation, or not at all. It seems like it's generally exciting when a guy moves the pen and adds a couple of extra MPH on his fastball, but I think this is almost worse for a guy like Sanchez. In theory anyways, it seems like he might be better served in a role where he's sitting at 93-94 with better control and better movement. Ultimately though, he really needs to develop his off speed stuff if he's got any chance, IMO.
  7. I think our best bet at this point re: Pompey is that he gets a chance in the second game tonight and does something noteworthy, aside from baserunning.
  8. At this point, I really don't know what Hutch brings to the table at this point. If you have a "long" guy in Buehrle, not sure Hutch is necessary. Unless the idea for MB is to act as a second lefty in the pen, in which case Loup is unnecessary. Still think I prefer Loup in that role though.
  9. You probably don't need to rest Martin, but if you had to for some reason, I'd rather have Navarro in there than Thole. Navarro at least has caught more of the guys and a few seem pretty comfortable with him. Has Thole caught anyone other than Dickey this year? I'm assuming he has to a minimal degree. Plus, Navarro's bat plays better than Thole's.
  10. I picked Smoak, despite his struggles hitting the breaking ball. I know he's had a couple of defensive hiccoughs lately, but I still trust his D over Cola's. I don't think he needs to hit 5th though, especially with Martin in the lineup.
  11. To me, it's also different when the other team scores via hit(s) and balls in play rather than walks, regardless of how competitive they may be.
  12. Really hoping that Gibbons' mindset isn't that Lowe and Hendriks gave up runs, so it must be Sanchez' turn again.
  13. Just an amazing career and a great character of the game.
  14. Other than going to Hutch in the 9th inning of a one-run game against the Yankees, I think Gibbons did well. I have no idea how Hutch gets the call at that moment.
  15. As disappointing as last night's loss was, how great is meaningful September baseball? I think last night's 9th inning sums it up well; a bit of despair at the thought of trying to score a run off Miller, elation of Navarro's homerun, hope and nervousness with the bases loaded, anguish with Donaldson's strikeout. So great to be part of these kinds of games.
  16. I find these the creation of these GDTs fascinating. I certainly don't believe in jinxes or that it makes a difference who starts them, but I find the compulsion to steal one from somebody else (if that's even a thing), with the knowledge that you're going to upset a lot of people by doing so (and that people get so upset!) just really, really, interesting.
  17. I do think he's smart enough. His leash last night was pretty short with Cecil ready to go when needed. Big change right there from a couple of weeks ago. I can't see Sanchez getting into another important 8th inning spot for a while now.
  18. Yeah, I don't usually put a lot of stock in body language and such, but he looked pretty nervous from the get-go.
  19. Yeah, that seems like the obvious way to go at this point. Expand out to maybe Hawkins if he's healthy, but I would venture too much outside of those 5 guys unless absolutely necessary.
  20. I did. A single probably scores Goins and it's a 5-run game that might change the whole complexion of the game. Gibby gonna Gibb.
  21. I don't know if need another lefty necessarily, we just need guys that can get outs. Lowe, Hawkins, Hendricks should be all good to go I would think. Would like to not have to use Osuna again if possible.
  22. I don't disagree with that at all. My viewpoint is less about Sanchez and more about taking a calculated risk with a four run lead to preserve Cecil if possible. I don't think anybody should be the "8th inning guy".
  23. Yes, I do agree that Sanchez should definitely be behind all the guys you listed + Osuna.
  24. At what amount of lead last night you would not have gone directly to Cecil in the 8th? 5 runs, 6 runs? Certainly there must be a threshold where you have to consider the other two games of the series as well. If those same guys come up for the Yankees late in a tie or close game tonight, it's likely we can't use Cecil. I don't think Sanchez's appearance last night was as much about him being the de facto 8th inning guy as much as it was a calculated risk to avoid having to use Lowe/Cecil unless necessary.
  25. Yes, I think he's more aware of situations than a lot of people give him credit for. I'm curious to know if he would have handled things differently in a two-run game instead of a four-run game. I would bet that Sanchez is going to be removed from his 8th inning role until they can get him back on track. Probably a blessing in disguise that Sanchez struggled without it costing the team last night's game.
