  1. Bobby Cox? He got things started in 1985. Circle of Life, and all that.
  2. I fear he's going to go full Rajai now. Swing for the fences.
  3. I'm pretty indifferent about Gibby personally, but he's been given outfield options of Pillar, Carrera, and.... They wouldn't put Bautista on the DL, they're sticking with Pompey in AAA...not much for Gibby to work with in this regard.
  4. Is Jim Leyland still alive?
  5. All of this. The most maddening thing about AA is going "all-in", yet punting the last 3 or 4 roster spots.
  6. Glad to hear he's progressing well-ish. Would be nice to open up some roster flexibility with him back in RF.
  7. I'll have to look more closely at the next press conference that involves Beeston, but at this point, I think the most likely explanation of his behavior is that we've stumbled on a "Weekend at Beeston's" scenario whereby Beeston has actually died, and his movements are the result of a complex yet discreet marionette system. Kind of like the live production of "War Horse". After a while, you just don't notice the puppeteers anymore.
  8. Beeston hasn't been able to find socks for 30 years. Pretty sure he's not aware of 3 months ago.
  9. I'm glad Beeston is having fun. Someone should be.
  10. Sure, who wouldn't? The problem with that approach is trying to assemble a 25 man roster that over the span of 162 games is going to end up with the most wins in the league, when you've decided that you don't care about filling that roster with players that have the skills and attributes that generally allow them to succeed. I really like Aaron Sanchez, and hope that his last few starts are a genuine sign that he's improving and figuring things out. That said, from a "team" perspective, it's hard to watch this team year-in-year-out throw 5 roster spots against the wall and hope that something sticks.
  11. By naming him the starting CF with minimal experience or track record. And then deciding after 20 games that he needed to go down. Whether "gift" is the right word or not, if 20 games is enough to decide that he shouldn't be in the majors, then there should have been a stronger effort to address outfield depth from the onset. In general terms, this team has a habit of giving the wrong guys too much rope (Thames, Pillar, Patterson) and other guys not enough (Snider, Pompey). That's not to say it wasn't the right decision to send Pompey down; just that if you're considering that a month into the season when you're "all in", the backup plan shouldn't be to pencil Pillar in at CF every day.
  12. It was Zwolinski in the Star today (I saw it in the paper edition). More specifically the article indicated the he is unable to "throw a baseball even close enough to the required level needed to play his position". For all intents and purposes, doesn't sound like he's close at all.
  13. For the record though, I'm fine with them continuing to throw Sanchez out there. Just wish they'd be more consistent with their messaging.
  14. This organization has been a Bizarro Jeckyl/Hyde organization for a long time now. Send Norris down citing peripherals but keep throwing Sanchez out there. Gift Pompey a roster spot in CF, make no moves after Saunders goes down, give up on Pompey after 20 games. Just a terrible job in general of filling out the last 3/4 spots of the 25 man roster.
  15. I guess that's the million dollar question. If keeping him in the lineup is preventing his chance at getting back to full health, then I think they have to DL him. His numbers aside, keeping him at DH forces Edwin to play 1B pretty much full-time, solidifies Pillar's spot in the lineup, and keeps Smoak nailed to the bench for the most part. Gotta find a way to get him back to playing RF, if at all possible this season.
  16. Just curious how it works when they back-date DL stints. Can they go back to as far as the last game played? Zwolinski had a piece in the Star which seems to indicate that Bautista hasn't really even started throwing yet, which seems concerning based on the amount of time since it's happened. I would be tempted to bite the bullet and DL him and try to give some time to get the shoulder in better shape. The idea of having to give him a few games off so they can get a cortisone shot in there seems like a pretty big red flag.
  17. It can't be easy for Gibbons to have to choose between sticking with his starters, who have been lousy, and his bullpen, who have been lousy. Probably should have gone to Cecil, but you know, #closer.
  18. I still remember when one of Zaun's Keys to the Game was to "find a way to win".
  19. Just crunched some numbers. Donaldson's FYSMC+ is off the charts.
  20. Yes, he reeks of baseball knowledge.
  21. Just turned on the game. Norris come out just due to pitch count?
