  1. What? I never said I thought it was a good call to throw it in that spot. I was referring to the crazy catch. Just saying it would've been brutal as well to lose because of another circus catch.
  2. LOL, come on, I think I'll take my chances. Just saying that it would've been brutal to lose because of a circus catch like that. Anyway...
  3. What about losing because of some 1/1000000 catch like the Pats would've had Carroll not blown it?
  4. What? The Patriots could be 6-0 in SB if not for some crazy catches by the opponents. Take tonight's crazy one without which, Carroll doesn't even get the chance to blow it. On the other hand, not a single person is blaming Wilson for the pick. Had it been Brady.... Anyway...
  5. The Pete Carroll we all knew from the Jets and Pats is back!!!
  6. My reverse jinx worked!!!
  7. WhaaaaaTTTT!!!
  8. Wow!!! The Patriots could be 6-0 in super bowls if not for some unbelievable catches against them!!!! Instead they'll be 3-3 in a few seconds!!!
  9. It might be a stretch even for Gio Gonzalez. Beane got 3 MLB-ready players in Norris, Peacock and Milone plus a lower minors guy (AJ Cole). Who knows really.
  10. This is not to say I liked the Dickey trade in any way, but I doubt the bolded part. As much as we all loved Syndergaard, he was traded after finishing his first year in full-season ball and those guys don't have that much value. For Latos, San Diego got 2 MLB ready players in Alonso and Grandal, that's clearly a more attractive package.
  11. I think most would agree that the Dickey trade doesn't happen without the Marlins trade having been made. Once they blew their budget in the Marlins trade, Dickey became more attractive given his low salary demands.
  12. It was a bad trade since the beginning. Most here wish they would've gotten a younger pitcher, or position player, in return. I do think there's some hidden value in the stability Dickey, as well as Buehrle, have brought to the Blue Jays' starting rotation. I also think the Blue Jays value the interest and hype the Dickey and Marlins trades brought them. Absent those moves, they risked striking out in FA and going into 2013 expecting to lose between 90-100 games. Not saying this is a good reason to overpay, but this franchise just doesn't dig being in such a position. Very few of the players traded would've helped the team either lose 90-100 games the last 2 seasons, or avoid losing that many games, so they figured they'd spend some of their assets on improving the team ASAP rather than take a step or 2 back and wait for the farm to bear fruits. I certainly hope Syndergaard and D'Arnaud continue to do well for the Mets.
  13. That's where the "twisted" part comes into play.
  14. We'll see what happens, but if AA is fired tomorrow, I'd say he left a better organization than when he took it over.
  15. Without the moves after the 2012 season, the Jays would've gone into 2013 expected to lose between 90 and 100 games and this, combined with the terrible ending to the 2012 season, would've led to dwindling attendance and lower tv ratings. Remember, this franchise doesn't do the rebuild thing. There's no doubt they went into that off season with the mindset that they'd make moves to improve the team and create some sort of positive buzz to turn around the negativity with which the 2012 season ended.
  16. So if they eliminate a good chunk of bullpen usage and strategy, will managers go away with them? After all, that's one of the few things they have an impact on.
  17. Ownership (Ed Rogers) turned this into a gong show. If they were gonna replace Beeston this off season, they should've let him know and gone on about the business of finding a new Prez. Instead, they went to the Yankees for advice, then didn't follow protocol when they asked Reindorf for permission to speak with Williams (great f***ing choice). Then got into a mess with the O's over DD. Also, this wasn't just about replacing Beeston. By going after 2 guys who are known as general managers first and foremost, they were also trying to replace AA, or at least demote him to being a figure head.
  18. The vast majority of which was inherited from the previous F/O and since we were discussing the Zaidi/Friedman combo as a top 5 GM in the game, it's pertinent to see how they've done in their first off season at the helm of the Dodgers' baseball dept.
  19. Not surprised here. Just pointing it out to the poster that wasn't in agreement over ranking Zaidi so high.
  20. I think top 15 is fair for AA. He started off well, then made those 2 trades in 2012, likely influenced by the organization's refusal to go into a season expecting to lose 90-100 games which would've been the case going into 2013 absent the trades, then stood pat last season, but has had a very good off season. Picking up Donaldson is huge as even if fired tomorrow, he'd leave the franchise with a bonafide superstar with 4 years of control. He'd also leave a nice core of young pitchers. Pompey looks really good to me, he could actually be a core player as well. A couple of more moves would solidify the team.
  21. Also, I could be wrong, but the Dodgers seem to be having an very good off season.
  22. He clearly means Friedman. Just like Hoyer/Epstein. It's just the way it is. If DD is hired by the Jays, whomever his GM is will be a figurehead and DD will get the credit for much of any success the team has.
  23. As well as pursuing Duquette, Rogers was reportedly also pursuing Kenny Williams. Neither of these pursuits give me any hope that they're looking to run the organization with long term value in mind. Rogers is rumoured to be pursuing these 2 on the advice of some guy that works for the Yankees. Also, the fact that they're reportedly pursuing a new president because of disobedience by Beeston and not because they want to focus on "value". In reality, hiring DD is fine, the issue is the gong show way in which they've gone about it.
  24. There's a link on the first page of this #thread: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11992598/toronto-blue-jays-seek-replace-ceo-paul-beeston
  25. Well, I read about that motive as well, but if that was it, then they had several months to consider a replacement. Plus, Beeston's contract was said to be expiring at the end of this past season so they knew they had a chance to make the chance then. It just seems to have been a sudden decision, without any thought behind it. Then you add the rumoured twist that Rogers went to the Yanks to ask for advice and it just makes you puke.
