    Anyone else would prefer that they were parting ways with Beeston because they want a forward-thinking organization instead of it being for having supported the wrong candidate for commissioner? Maybe the reports are wrong though, who knows.

    I can understand your concerns, but I have to say, the fact that he "has 1 year at AA", is a good thing. What would you prefer, that he had repeated AA? A case can be made that Travis could or should've been promoted to AAA at some point in the past season. We'll see what happens.

    Aviles plus some relief power pitcher. Not too shabby I'd say.

    I think I'd rather go read what Jays fans think of replacing Navarro with Martin on TSN or SportsNet.

    If this is the end of AA, he will have left the franchise in better shape than when he took it over...still no playoffs though!

    I agree with this and have said something similar to some of those who were s***ing all over AA for a couple of years. It all starts from the top.

    I don't think anyone would disagree. However, I think you'd agree that if Seattle had actually offered Saunders for Lind, AA would've taken it in a heartbeat. I think we need to accept that sometimes, what a GM gets for a player is likely the most he was offered for said player, regardless of what we think this player should fetch.

    Yup. However, the Jays were desperate to improve the team otherwise, they would've gone into 2013 expected to lose 90-100 games with lower ticket sales and tv ratings. It's also doubtful that the Jays would've been able to sign top FA at the time since they seem to be on most players' no-trade list. The trade wasn't franchise-crippling in the least and AA has rebuilt the farm.

    Except that the Jays didn't have Reyes at the time. They probably figured they'd sign Izturies (if they hadn't signed him yet), don't remember. Anyway.

    No one has said Valencia shouldn't play 3B when Donaldson is rested, in fact, you can bet he will. I think the Jays made it clear they'll use the DH spot to give off days to some of the regulars although EE will be the primary DH. We'll see what happens.

    I like some of them, but guys like SRF, Brentz and Hollon stand out for me. Even if some of them develop into legit 'spects, don't get too attached as AA will probably deal them for something at the MLB level, whether it'll be for a Reyes or Donaldson who knows.

    Drafting Jansen will make up for drafting Pentecost, if in fact he busts. And if Pentecost pans out, you've got 2 good prospects.

    They're playing BB in Europe? s***, I thought the sport was dying.

    I like Lawrie a lot. A's will get good value out of the deal, I really don't see this trade as the steal some are calling it. Barreto will be key, but the 2 MLB-ready pitchers will provide value for the A's as well. We'll see what happens.

    It's fine, we can agree it's close and the team has done a heck of a job in restocking the system although some of it is due to the emergence of guys that were already in the system in 2011 and 2012. I think I'd take the current crop because of the proximity to MLB of some of the guys and the potential of guys like Hoffman, Pentecost, Osuna and Castro to be close to MLB for 2016. I also like better the current balance beween the MLB roster and the farm.

    Very true re trying to rebuild his value. He'll probably sign with an NL team or with a team like Oakland (once they trade some of their SP depth). I was suggesting him at a reduced $alary which would make it a more worthwhile risk for the Jays instead of the 10M option they declined. Again, you're right though, he'll end up at a pitcher's park.

    How about bringing back Morrow to battle for Happ's starting spot, at a reduced salary of course? I like guys like Beachy and Medlen as well. I'd prefer him as a reliever, but who knows. Signing a McCarthy or Liriano would be my preference for SP, but they might be out of the Jays' price range.

    Who knows, I guess it would depend on which list we're looking at. It's still impressive given all the 'spects they traded away in the latter part of 2012. Also, who were these 6 or 7 guys you're talking about?

    Pretty decent system despite dealing at least one guy who would've made the top 10. Agree with those who would have Castro over Labourt. Labourt seems like a legit guy, but he had to be demoted last year from Lansing to Vancouver. I expect Nay, Jansen, Urena and Alford to climb to the top 10 soon, but we'll see. Looking forward to seeing how fast Castro, Hoffman, Osuna and Pentecost move up the system, if at all. Also, lower level guys like Borucki, Smoral, Labourt, Hollon, Sean Reid-Foley, Tellez and others. Would you guys say the system is back to 2012 levels?

    It would depend on what direction the team was headed (i.e. if they were rebuilding or trying to contend). I think your assumption is wrong. AA went into that off season knowing that upper management expected him to make moves to sell tickets, interest and higher tv ratings instead of going into 2013 expected to lose 90-100 games. Basically, you have it backwards.
