  1. Thanks for this. And yes, I'd take the actual roster for 2015 over the above one.
  2. At the end of the 2013 season, we were talking about how bad things were looking for 2015 and 2016. Heck, even entering the off season, most were pessimistic about 2015, 2016 and expected the F/O to sign a bunch of relievers. Forward to now and we're feeling good about the team's quality for 2015 and 2016 after this off season. Let's face it, we been quite wrong lately about the team's direction. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if ownership agreed to part with Stroman for DD.
  3. Another thing about both the Marlins and Mets trades was that they cost the team a likely top 5 draft pick in both 2014 and 2015 as the team would've likely been pretty bad. Imagine the young talent the team would have albeit with an even emptier stadium and fewer eyes watching on tv, but they'd come back once the young players would start winning ball games. Oh and the team would cost much less of course.
  4. It would be ideal if the manager decided when Martin will have a day off from catching and not have to be forced into having to play Thole on days Dickey starts, especially when facing a LHP although, I think Martin has reverse splits lately. On the other hand, Martin cannot catch every game and I would think his defensive prowess would be maximized by catching conventional pitchers so why not have him catch these guys as much as possible? Now, if they could get a good backup catcher, that would be great. However, this F/O hasn't shown a good eye for catchers so I wouldn't hold my breadth.
  5. The fact that this won't die down worries me. Someone at Rogers may be obsessed with Duquette, I just hope it doesn't lead them to doing something stupid. Last time we were all ridiculing another team's fans for their trade demands was in the lead-up to the Dickey trade and I don't think we want a repeat of that.
  6. Escobar has little trade value around MLB, whether some like it or not. This is how AA was able to get him for a reliever (?). The Marlins only took him from the Jays in that infamous trade to avoid having to send more $ to the Jays since the Jays were gonna release him and eat his contract. Just to be clear, this doesn't mean I think he's a bad player, but we have to accept his baggage weighs down his legit value.
  7. Yeah, I never got why they never gave him a chance to catch Dickey. Anyway...
  8. So who's this great back-up that the Jays will get in place of Thole and/or Navarro? Regardless, my guess would be they're still trying to trade Navarro and this is just posturing through the media.
  9. I just don't think the Rays got much for him in this deal. He just doesn't have much trade value because of the baggage he carries which is why the Jays couldn't get anything for him after the homophobic incident. Heck, I believe the Marlins took him off the Jays' hands instead of sending more $ to the Jays since AA had likely been told to release him.
  10. I shouldn't have said 'throw-in', it's just that the return seems light for both Zobrist and him. I just think several posters overvalue him around here in the sense that they don't realize the baggage he carries weighs down his true value within the baseball industry. I've been wrong before though...
  11. Seems like Escobar was a throw-in.
  12. Barreto one of the 'spects? Wait and see to find out
  13. You expected something like this from Beane after trading Donaldson. We'll have to wait and see if true and what players will be involved.
  14. He underwent TJS in mid May 2014 so assuming the Blue Jays will be careful with him, mid June to early July might be a good guess.
  15. When you look at the talent that's been traded away, you'd think this team's farm system would be bottom 5, but no, it's around top 10 even after trading away 2 MLB-ready SP and 1 highly touted low-minors 'spect. Thing is, there's still some upside for next season with Hoffman, Pentecost, Osuna and Castro possibly moving quickly up the minors. We'll see what happens.
  16. Plus a likely top 5 pick in both 2014 and the upcoming draft since the team would've sucked big time. Also, Bautista would've likely asked for a trade so you should add a couple of top prospects to the mix. On the other hand, the owners wouldn't have been happy with the low attendance, interest and tv ratings. It's nice to fantasize though.
  17. Shoot, I was planning on buying Chinese t'morrow. Merry Christmas to all.
  18. I'm hoping Jimenez stays healthy for a change to see how good his D is. I'd be more than fine with that. We'll see...
  19. Funny how things work. Not too long ago, so many thought AA would leave a crummy situation for the GM that succeeded him. Things don't look so dire now with Donaldson for 4 years, Stroman and Hutchison established as SP, Norris, Pompey and Sanchez knocking on the door. Also, guys like Hoffman, Pentecost, Castro and Osuna, who could all move rather quickly.
  20. The bolded parts. On the first part, he seems too involved and the 2nd one reminds me of the "track team" quote that was attributed to him re the Marlins Trade. As I said though, I'm probably reading too much into it.
  21. I'm probably reading too much into this, but I don't like the following quote from Beeston:
  22. So going into last season, you thought the "relief core" was not strong? If true, there must be a link.
  23. Stop gap 2B/backup SS? Yes, but not a long term 2B. AA made his 2B move and its name is Devon Travis.
  24. Me been saying the bolded part for some time. I really don't disagree with him unless a really good deal presented itself, of course. One of the things people keep bringing up against Travis is the fact that "he hasn't played above AA". However, I don't think it's out of the question to say he deserved a promotion to AAA to end the the year even after his slow start, which some attribute to his being injured early in the season, but regardless. AA is looking for a stopgap that can also back up Reyes which makes sense to me.
  25. It went with Beeston.
