  1. While Rogers may not be paying full market rate for the Jays' broadcast rights, the Blue Jays already have a big enough budget to put a contending team on the field. In fact, I think they had a top-10 budget last year, to go along with their top-10 catcher.
  2. Sign Drew, move Reyes to 2b, sign the 2 Bakers and call it an off season.
  3. Trade Rasmus for a starter and 2B and sign Sizemore.
  4. Zaun's comments should be a clear indication to AA to sign Garza instead of either of that 2-headed monster.
  5. It depends on the price they get these guys for. I may lean towards Garza because of his past success and the draft pick, but who knows, Garza may want to play in the WC. We've already seen rumors of Hudson possibly choosing SF over Toronto so who really knows.
  6. They should at least try to drive up the price for Tanaka so that the Yanks pay through their noses.
  7. I think pulling out of the winter tour is a bad sign regarding negotiations for an extension, I think The Hurl said this earlier. I think you're right that it's an easy yes, but the fact that they're trying to win now does change the equation. I guess they could always trade him during the season if they think they're getting a better return than a pick. At least there's a new rumor to talk about.
  8. I don't know if this was posted, but the Phillies got a 2.5 billion tv deal for 25 years + some equity in ad revenue, that's 100M a year. Looks like Amaro will have more money to dig a bigger hole for the Phillies.
  9. Good articke, but would've been better if they hadn't ignored the chicken wing.
  10. Boy, as others have said, the lack of news is driving people nuts. We're reduced to debating the below speculative garbage from Griffin which, if true, would actually say more about Dombrowski than about AA: "When right-hander Doug Fister was traded to the Nats in November, Anthopoulos was surprised and indicated the Tigers surely knew he was interested, that he would have liked a last chance to bid on the talented starter. Would he have been given the opportunity two years ago? Perhaps." So "perhaps" Dombrowski would rather get a worse package than deal with Anthopoulos. Perhaps, the lack of moves is making Griffin's job a little more difficult and he couldn't do better than come up with this garbage, thus hinting at some incompetence on his part.
  11. Yeah, maybe Beeston should've stepped in and taken over the negotiations like he did when AA reportedly asked the Red Sox for Buckholz in return for Farrell.
  12. So why didn't Griffin point out a single trade that AA missed out on because another GM didn't want to deal with him? And the Fister trade doesn't count, there should've been at least 5-10 GM's willing to give Dombrowski a better return than what he got. There was recently a report of a trade involving the Jays that was nixed because of a failed physical by one of the players involved. I'm willing to be critical of AA, but not based on some article by a guy who was probably praising him after the 2 major trades last off season.
  13. If anything, GM's would be eager to deal with AA given his last few trades. Forget AA for a second, I can't imagine there wouldn't be 5 or more GM's willing to give Dombrowski a better return than what he got.
  14. It's not like AA has stopped making trades though. He's made several trades in the last year.
  15. You never know with GM's. This is why I don't get into criticizing AA for not giving up D'Arnaud + Syndergaard for Latos, as one example, since we don't that 1. He didn't offer them and 2. that the Padres would've considered that a better package than what they got.
  16. If Dombrowski is letting his dislike for AA or any GM prevent him from possibly getting a better return in a trade, then that's should be at least problematic for Tigers fans.
  17. He was doing fine till the Happ trade. Since then, he's arguably been the worst GM. By the way, next year would be AA's 3rd straight losing season, not 4th. Another thing is that, let's say that he signs a FA pitcher instead of trading more prospects for one and the team wins 84 games, makes 2 good picks in next year's draft and some of the low minors prospects continue to march towards becoming legit prospects, I could definitely see an extension.
  18. This is one of the downsides of corporate ownership or any ownership that is not involved with how the team is run for that matter. Here's a story about the Cardinals' Chairman and CEO and how their success starts with him: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/chairman-and-ceo-bill-dewitt-jrs-visionary-thinking-transformed-cardinals?ymd=20131025&content_id=63344130&vkey=news_mlb
  19. Thanks for that, I hadn't noticed since it was just posted. We'll see if that turns out to be the case, but these 2 guys seemed to criticize the team quite a bit. I think Hayhurst questioned the change of direction taken by the team or something to that effect.
  20. Well, there goes that possibility, lol. I really think these types of policies (like not dealing with Boras), are examples of the downside to corporate ownership. This policy, afik, was set by Beeston for personal reasons and the fact that ownership allows him to have this kind of power is at least problematic for the baseball operations. We could include releasing players for PR reasons as another example. Anyway
  21. Here's a story on him from Blue Bird Banter: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2013/12/26/5242932/masahiro-tanaka-the-pitcher
  22. Are the Jays getting a less expensive pitcher + a 2B and a Jeff Baker? Of course, this assumes that the Jays are seeking improvements at 2B and RH bat not to mention that the 2B FA market is barren at this point.
  23. I don't think Happ, Rogers or Redmond being the #5 starter will prevent the Blue Jays from being respectable. Besides, I'm thinking the young guys will be needed throughout the season anyway, so start them at AAA and let them continue to develop even if it's for a month or 2. Maybe they get lucky and Happ pitches well early in the year and some team takes him in a trade. Remember, the rotation that we're talking about includes Tanaka so this is all fantasy since there's little chance they get him.
  24. I've also posted about trading Happ and either Janssen or Santos, if not both, it's a good place to save money, but who knows if there's a market for Happ.
