  1. Yeah, although I have to admit, given the bench options last year, I actually enjoyed watching DeRosa hit, he put up some good at bats, same for Kawasaki. I'm interested in seeing what Kratz brings and if he can catch the knuckler.
  2. Here's my pick for resurrection or the year.
  3. Makes 2 of us. Given my low expectations for the 2014 season, I'll probably enjoy following the team more than last year. Relatively good health would be great to have as even if the team is not good enough, it would put them in a better position to trade some of the more expensive guys for younger ones. There's also some guys in the minors whose progress will be interesting to follow like Stroman, Hutchison, Nolin, Jimenez, Pillar, Norris, Sanchez, Nay, Burns and all the guys in the lower minors. They also have 2 top 11 picks so assuming they sign one of the 2, lol, that will be interesting.
  4. He must know, he was in KC, home of George Brett to whom Lawrie was compared coming up. On the other hand, he also praised Ryan Goins.....
  5. Why can't Ricky Romero do the same? Things like this don't happen to the Blue Jays, lol.
  6. For sure they're better off, he's doing them a favor...$13M!!!
  7. Trust me, it'll work out for them, it always does. It would be nice if Jake Peavy went back to his injury-prone days, but I don't want to wish anything bad on anyone, what with Karma and s***.
  8. I'm not concerned about losing Redmond, I'm more concerned with player development. Remember, Hutchison was rushed from AA in 2012, had TJS, came back last year and made 5 starts at AAA. Drabek has struggled mightily in his MLB time and is coming back from his 2nd TJS. He showed improved command, I say let's see him show that improved command for a bigger SS at AAA. Stroman hasn't even pitched above AA. Hopefully they sign Jimenez and Drew to good deals, trade Happ and a reliever for salary relief and keep Hutchison, Stroman, Nolin and Drabek as depth.
  9. We'll see what happens, but Hutchison had 58 IP (21 in the AFL) and Drabek 45 both coming off TJS. Stroman hasn't pitched above AA. I think it would be best for everyone involved if these guys started the year at AAA. One of the positives of signing a SP would be to give their young pitchers more development time.
  10. I did say "I'd like to think", but for got the "but" at the end.
  11. That's the thing though, IF they sign a starter. Let's say they can get Ubaldo and Drew for 22M/year, if they move Happ and one of Janseen/Santos, that's about 8M so they'd be adding like 14M to the payroll, which was JJ's QO. I'd like to think that they budgeted for the possibility of keeping together the team they paid dearly to assemble.
  12. If the Jays get a starter, I suspect/expect Happ to be dealt. It's not out of the question that the M's would be interested. Maybe Happ+reliever for one of the 2B. I also think that AA could get something decent for one of the RP, especially seeing what he got for Lincoln.
  13. I think you're probably right. I think the circumstances would've been there for a longer rebuild. Part of the rationale for last off season's moves was said to be to to speed up the rebuild to coincide with Bautista and EE's contracts. I suspect ownership sets the mandate through the team president and unless they hire a president who makes the organization stick to a plan, we're likely to see these short-sighted changes in direction. I think part of the frustration some of us feel is that if they had stuck with the plan, the organization would be in pretty darn good shape. However in order to do so, they had to be willing to take a step back in 2013 given Romero's implosion and the injuries to Hutchison and Drabek and I think that wasn't an option because it would've likely meant less interest, ticket sales and ratings.
  14. Corredor del monton = run-of-the-mill
  15. IF this is what Jimenez's drop has fallen to, I have no clue what AA is waiting for. At some point, other teams will find him more appealing. Maybe AA is going to sign him 2 weeks into ST so that they have an excuse in case he stinks.
  16. The way I read what Cashman is saying is that that's his floor.
  17. It is what it is, it's not like he cost much to obtain. He should be regarded as the #4 starter, kind of like Lackey was for the Red Sox going into last year. Hopefully, they get Burnett or Jimenez and Drew at good prices.
  18. Not a theory bro, it's all facts...in my head of course.
  19. Here's what I found on YT: Yes, a lot of those plays were highlight-reel type, but he had got to balls up the middle and in the 1b/2B hole like no one I ever saw. Anyway, to each his own.
  20. All these rumors are being planted by the Jays to appease the masses. What they fail to realize, as usual, is that if/when they end up with their finger up their deriere and no FA, the masses will stay away from the RC. It's the same shortsightedness they employed to abandon the very plan they claimed they were following. Anyway...
  21. Alomar sucks!
  22. I'd like to think they'd deal Happ and one of Santos/Janssen sometime during ST. I just don't think there are any takers for Buehrle's contract. I think if you sign Burnett and Drew the team is a contender, at least "on paper" and I think there's a market for Santos and Happ.
