  1. IIRC, it wasn't a major change, but he gave up on it. I think it had to do with the way he landed, they felt it would put less strain on his wonky knee and improve his command. I suspect RR has a bit of the same problem as JPA which is to say he doesn't want to look in the mirror and admit that he sucks and needs to look for improvement. There's no downside for either him or the organization only upside. Hopefully, they try to alter his mechanics.
  2. I think many have admitted to being wrong about him. His salary is/was a problem for some because not many believed Rogers would cough up the $ necessary to continue to add to last year's payroll and they've been somewhat right. I'd actually regain some respect for AA if he traded Dickey and/or Buehrle in the off season and signed Lester/Masterson/Scherzer. Hopefully, they can get 2 decent players for either the junk-ballers and improve the team.
  3. Walker said they had no intention of sending him down, but AA said they discussed sending him back down to start. Clear contradiction. As far as working him in like Hentgen was, why are they doing this with Stroman, but didn't do it with Drabek, Alvarez and Hutchison? IMO, it has nothing to do with letting Stroman get his feet wet at the MLB level. It was a panic move after the MLB bullpen had blown a few games. The quote I posted above confirms this: It has nothing to do with development.
  4. When drafted, many said Stroman would be a reliever because of his height. The Jays correctly gave him a chance to start and he has thrived. They have said they view him a starting pitcher, yet they called him up after 5 starts at AAA and sunk him in the BP. Now they are saying they're leaning towards Hendriks to start next Saturday because he's fully stretched out. Well, had they not "de-stretched" Stroman, they wouldn't have this issue. It's just another sign of incompetence, IMO.
  5. I'm assuming this is a quote from Walker, if it isn't, disregard the following quote from AA: He said this after watching Hendriks pitch in Buffalo last night. Seems to me like a contradiction to what Walker said.
  6. So AA was in Buffalo to watch Hendriks and he also discussed The Stroman Plan: Link: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/5/18/5727946/bison-recap-and-alex-anthopoulos-speaks I said at the time, it made more sense to call up Stilson to give the bullpen a boost, but who knows.
  7. Wasn't there a thread about Joey Bats's demise last year? I think there was, but I ain't bumping it for fear of THE JINX.
  8. Exactly right. The issue for me was why would it take Aviles and Gomes to land a middle reliever? Bad process led to a bad result. We couldn't know what type of catcher he was because they had him playing 3B and 1B. Anyway...
  9. Basically, another truth bomb from Moogy...lol. It really does boil down to this. They really should've just left him alone in Buffalo. I don't see what good pitching an inning here and an inning there will do for his development. Anyway...
  10. I have no problem giving credit where credit is due, but let's wait on proclaiming Francisco to be the real deal. Also, it was super scout EE who recommended they sign him, so I don't know. The Indians immediately put Gomes behind the plate whereas the Blue Jays and their myriad scouts had him playing multiple positions so they must've had a clue. Former Jays catcher Kevin Cash works for them and was involved in advising Cleveland on getting him. s*** happens, but let's face it, it shouldn't take a legitimate backup IF and a guy like Gomes to land a dime-a-dozen middle reliever. Regardless, I was merely pointing out that if AA didn't have a reliever fetish, he likely wouldn't have dealt these 2 useful players for a reliever. Anyway...
  11. Again, no one on this board gets paid to be the GM of an MLB team, so yes, you can fault AA and his entire staff for not recognizing Gomes' abilities.
  12. Also, the fact that fans didn't think Gomes was anything doesn't mean much as it's not their job. It was AA's job to know what he had in Gomes and he was clueless, but anyway.
  13. Of course they are different things, I said looking smart because he clearly had no clue Gomes could be an every day catcher. And no, he's not a smart GM, it's been proven. The way he's handling Stroman is further proof.
  14. Well, that's kind of the point. If he had kept him and he had the season he had last year, some people would've thought AA was smart for keeping him even though it would've been a fluke. Another point was that because of his fetish for middle relievers, he prevented himself from looking somewhat smart if Gomes had taken over as the starting catcher.
  15. This is happening, you can take it to the bank: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140517&content_id=75810680¬ebook_id=75810452&vkey=notebook_tor&c_id=tor
  16. I meant that if he had kept Gomes and he had the season he had last year, he would at least look somewhat smart for Gomes's emergence. I didn't mean to imply that he should've traded D'Arnaud instead of Gomes for Rogers, lol.
  17. If he had it under control, he would've looked somewhat smart for trading D'Arnaud, but keeping Gomes, even if by pure luck. Unfortunately, he couldn't resist trading for a dime a dozen middle reliever like Rogers.

  19. I expect a losing streak to start tomorrow. Hopefully, it'll be a short one.
  20. Hey bro, don't you have a hoops game to watch or something?
  21. Give the guy a break, he's been off for 3 or more days.
  22. He's not dumb though...just latino.
  23. Loosen up bro, it's the game thread, gotta have some fun.
