Marlins are under the impression that it might cost ~120M to lock Hech up. It seems that propriety defensive metrics and probably conversations with other teams have led them to believe he's a lot better than UZR and DRS credit him for being. He might be Simmons good.
Pillar putting up 15 fWAR over the next 5 years is such a longshot that it's basically not even considerable. The highest OF fWAR over the last 5 years with a sub-100 wRC+ is Bourn at 12.1, and then it's Parra at 9.1. Very little chance his defense remains elite through age-31.
KC kind of just won a World Series doing this. They added a bunch of wins to the defense and bullpen because it was the cheapest place to add, and basically ignored their starting rotation.
Kiley McDaniel was saying on a podcast a few weeks ago that the ceiling for a pure analytics guy in an MLB org is basically director of analytics. I'm surprised someone like Sartori would leave a good job with apple to run a 3-person division with a glass ceiling.
Well, WAR is park-adjusted, but you're right in saying his raw numbers would be boosted and likely make him more appealing. Hard to see a guy who's legs are so important sign here with the turf though.
I think people are really selling Carrasco's value short. He's s top-10 SP signed cheap for like 5 years. Cleveland can easily beat Norris/Hoffman/Pompey.
They teally should move him back to C. Keeping him healthy was one thing when he had a monster bat, but he's replacement-level anywhere but C at this point.
