    If he doesn't retain value, then he doesn't. I don't think the trade deadline is a good time for a team in 1st place to be looking at maximizing the trade return of their best reliever.

    You have to think he'll retain most of his value into the offseason. He still has 4 years of control left. Keep him for the playoff run, then trade him to whatever team has their bullpen implode in the playoffs (if you're intent on moving him).

    I'm with L54. I'd be surprised if he ever starts. And I think it's the right move. He's worth 2-3 wins in his current role (probably). He only has 4 years of team control left, and if he's stretched out, the first two of those years will come with innings caps that make him unlikely to be worth what he's currently worth in 70 high leverage innings. You'd be stretching him out hoping for 1-2 4+ win seasons before he hits free agency, when you have 2-3 wins in hand (and ostensibly, less injury risk) if you just leave him be.

    Having a good bullpen is nice, but I hate investing in them. I've been pretty fortunate in this league that Betances-Feliz-Casilla-Shaw-Street have been good enough (except Street) that I don't think I've added a pen arm since April.
