  1. I'm going to change that tonight. Eliminated teams should be able to pounce on players dumped by teams trying to win a playoff series (RIP Neftali Feliz ).
  2. Cool, my man David Paulino called up by Houston.
  3. Yeah, he's really pushing it here. Hitting an atrocious hitter 7th so you can have a '2nd lead off hitter' 9 is cute until Pillar is the last out in a close game. Not that any of this really matters.
  4. Does Gibby actually believe that Travis is the worst hitter in that lineup?
  5. I just mean you can basically just toss Thole and the Dickey effect aside and look at his RA-9 WAR.
  6. There's the negative contributions of Thole, but also the positives of the Dickey effect. I think RA-9 WAR does a pretty good job capturing the value of him and his caddie. But I wouldn't bring him back if it meant Thole comes along for the ride. You can't have a personal catcher for your swingman when that personal catcher has no other utility.
  7. Yeah, Thole really has to go.
  8. I don't know. I have no insight into why the numbers say he went from average-ish to a tire fire since last year.
  9. None of this is actually true though. He's objectively, inarguably, been a quality 5th starter this year even though it might not feel like it. I don't want him back because I hate watching him, but he's above replacement-level.
  10. Yeah. Can't root for a 1st time playoff team to find immediate success. It's why the only two teams I really want to see bounced in round one are Spanky and TCA. Also, not sure you're aware but you made the LOD playoffs and might want to tend to your roster.
  11. Dickey is having his worst season as a Jay, but he's had at least some utility: he's still been worth about a win. He's actually been better than what most teams have thrown out as their 5th starter, even though it doesn't look pretty. He's probably not going to get 10-12M again this offseason, but there's still a price point at which it makes baseball sense to bring him back. What is that price? 4-5M + no personal catcher to pitch in a long relief/6th starter role? I'd probably decline just because I hate watching him and even the possibility of seeing Josh Thole back makes me sick, but you can easily make a baseball case for bringing him back.
  12. Can't root for the underdog brah
  13. I don't know. I'm not really on the "he should be dumped" train, just the "that contract makes me nervous and it would be nice to replace him with a less risky alternative" train. Just last offseason Brad Miller was acquired for a swingman, Jonathan Villar was picked up off the scrap heap, and Asdrubal Cabrera was signed for 2/18.5. If the team can find someone they project for at least 1.5 wins for minimal investment, then dumping Tulo and putting the $80M towards something else (JD extension?) makes sense.
  14. I hate the underdog. I'd probably root for Dinger, but I think he's the BORED favourite, and I can't imagine how insufferable he'd be if he won both. I think I'll join FTD's corner.
  15. Average shortstop wRC+ is 96, and Tulo is at 104. So he's a bit above average offensively for his position. Defense grades as above-average, but not elite. Given his age, you'd probably project him to be about average offensively and defensively next year.
  16. Yeah. The complete lack of anything resembling a viable in-house replacement means you can't trade him unless you have a deal lined up to bring someone else in. And they probably only jump through those hoops if they want to cut down on their long term financial commitment to accommodate a Donaldson extension or something.
  17. A factor in the team's favour is the very weak FA market. But 4/80 is a lot for a 32-year old you'd likely project at 2-3 wins, and who has a long injury history. And a lot of teams with money to spend have a shortstop in-house who is average or better. Maybe the Tigers or Mariners? Would Seattle add a 20M per year player?
  18. I'd be very surprised if anyone would take it on without the team adding money or some other value.
  19. Very bold move starting that shitbag Dickey on a Monday.
  20. Damn, Grandal's hair has abandoned him. Time to shave that s***.
  21. Turner just hit one out too. Greinke is getting destroyed.
  22. And Corey Seager goes deep!
  23. Goddamn Dinger, your offense is scary good.
