  1. I still think they should explore a deal for Tatis. SD has money issues, Tatis hasn't rebounded from his issues and could maybe use a change of scenery, and Preller loves to deal. Might be the easiest path to landing a potential franchise player,.
  2. In a city like Toronto, with ownership willing to spend to the tax, I don't think competent management should be concerned about contention cycles. The goal should be a development system that produces a constant pipeline of talent. And they shouldn't have to wait for the system to be completely flush with talent before spending some money and targeting a wild card spot. A couple down years to clear the remaining vet contracts from the books should be the only punted years.
  3. Yeah. I think he’s more likely than not to make the hall at this point. He just needs to not completely implode in the next couple seasons.
  4. Acuna left today's game with what looked like a serious injury to the knee that wasn't hurt a couple years ago. Starting to think that these guys should take time off instead of going home and playing Winter League
  5. I'll never not think 100+ RBI seasons are cool, or it's cool when someone puts up like 130+
  6. So Atkins gives a press conference last weekend about how there's still time but the team has to turn things around very soon. Team proceeds to go 3-4 vs. the White Sox and Tigers, and didn't even face Skubal.
  7. May 25th an Jose Ramirez has 51 RBIs
  8. 3-3 vs. Tigers and White Sox is not going to get it done. This team sucks.
  9. Seager is now 30 and has a long injury history. Not sure he's going to age great
  10. This team with the homerun jacket is absolutely incredible
  11. John Means left yesterday's game with elbow soreness. Guy can’t stay healthy
  12. Bo's play this season has possibly been the team's biggest problem this season. He's been horrific. Late May and he's been replacement level: bad offensively, bad defensively, bad on the bases. No real interest in having him on a long-term contract, and he seems like the kind of guy who will sulk if moved to 2B where he belongs.
  13. I'm not sure he's made a single out since I dropped him a few weeks ago
  14. Why not just have the umpire get the actual call on every pitch instead of restricting it to a certain number of challenges?
  15. Him, Imanaga, and Suarez are probably the three front runners for the NL CY if the season ended today. Would be cool to see him win his first one at 35
  16. I don't think the Braves wanted Contreras catching. They place a huge emphasis on C defense.
  17. The best part of that trade is that Oakland decided they didn't need him, and Milwaukee was able to sneak in and get him for Esteury Ruiz
  18. Teams that are trying to win don't let go of guys that can catch and hit. Like, never. There pretty much isn't a scenario where Jano shouldn't be re-signed. There's no chance of a scorched earth rebuild, and he should be kept through a retool.
  19. Baseball was better when nobody had data on anything
  20. Right, but how much input does Shapiro actually have when it comes to personnel decisions, whether player or coaches? My sense is that Atkins would be given a budget, maybe after some negotiation, and then operate within that budget and in alignment with the broad direction and priorities of the team. For example, when the team needed a 3B this offseason, Shapiro might have had to approve the deal that was ultimately signed, but it was up to Atkins and his staff to go to Shapiro with the solution they wanted approved. Similarly, I'd expect it to be Atkins and his staff responsible for identifying and recruiting hiring the various directors (scouting, player development etc...) even if Shapiro is signing off at the end.
  21. I don't really think Shapiro involves himself in the day to day of baseball ops. Could see things working fine if Shapiro brings in a new head of baseball ops from a quality org and continues to do whatever it is he does to convince Rogers to continue spending to the luxury tax and making investments like the development complex.
  22. Atkins is comfortable with slimy. Dude completely threw Schneider under the bus with the Berrios debacle last year.
  23. I think Shapiro will get an opportunity to stay and replace Atkins, if he wants to
  24. Prediction: if they lose today Schneider is fired before tomorrow's game
