May 4th and Bo and Vlad are still at -0.1 fWAR combined.

Hopefully he picks it up soon enough that he's still able to have a typical season by his standards. Because I think this team is going to want him to have real trade value in the offseason.

I've thought that all season. He looks checked out. And I haven't seen every game, but I haven't seen any kind of show of frustration at his play. Usually guys would show something when mired in a career worst slump.

Yeah. Biggest issue now is that some serious unexpected problems have popped up: - Vlad is somehow worse than last year - Bo completely forgot how to play baseball - The bullpen has kind of fallen apart: Green hurt, Mayza, Cabrera, Swanson all terrible.

The leafs being eliminated tomorrow would almost make up for the Jays playing like dogshit.

That’s fair, but it’s also mostly a Vlad problem. Vlad and Bo this year. It’s tough to watch when you’re disgusted by what should be the team’s two best players. Assuming things stay mostly the same, a defining part of Atkins’ tenure is going to be how he pivots off the Bo/Vlad core this offseason. Running it back with them or moving them and failing to secure at least one replacement star bat will be a failure.

This is a more reasonable take than assuming that the Jays, after 2022, managed to assemble the worst offensive coaching staff in baseball. A coaching staff so bad that they ruin veteran major leaguers. Varsho, Turner, Schneider, Clement, Jansen, Biggio, IKF are all meeting or exceeding expectations. There are three main reasons why the offense sucks this year: A) Vlad sucks Bichette can't run, hit, or defend. Have the horrible Jays coaches finally ruined him after 9 years in the system? Or is this a Bo problem, whether physical, mental, or both? C) Springer has fallen off at 34 C) Is something the team would have expected might happen. BJMB posters talked at the time of the signing about how the back half of the deal would likely be bad, but we'll deal with that if the front half is great.And the front half was pretty good. If they can squeeze a couple of league average seasons out of him in 2024 and 2025, this isn't really a problem. I'm not sure "fire everyone" is the best response to A) and . Is it the coaching staff/front office's fault that Bo looks like a 40-year old Omar Vizquel in his 6th MLB season after being great for the first 5? Because if not, we're mostly just talking about firing everyone because Vlad is a massive disappointment.

It's also a completely moot point, because MLB teams don't operate that way. They were coming off seasons of 91 and 92 wins in 2021 and 2022. It would basically be unprecedented to jump into a rebuild at that point. The biggest problem with the team this year, by far, is that Vlad and Bo are both at 0.0 WAR almost a full month into the season. That's absolutely crippling.

Looks like another 1-run loss where the 2 and 3 hitters contribute absolutely nothing. This is getting pathetic.

If the rest of this season plays out like 2023 and April 2024 have, it's almost impossible to imagine Vlad back next year. Like, Ross would actually have to be a computer to watch another 5 months of this and then decide that the best path forward is to spend 25M on another season of it. A poorly-programmed computer.

April 25th and Varsho is at 1.4 fWAR. ROS projections now have him finishing with 4+ WAR. Maybe KK starts seeing more of the bench and Varsho can get into the 5-6 range. What a player.

wRC+ of guys in our best lineup so far this season: RF - Springer - 105 1B - Vlad - 105 SS - Bichette - 85 DH - Turner - 168 CF - Varsho - 164 C - Jansen - 113 LF - Schneider - 110 3B - IKF - 113 2B - Biggio - 113 Clement - 115 The offense has a chance to be good. Basically everyone is meeting/exceeding expectations except the team's two best players. The team is probably like 15-10 right now instead of 13-12 if Bo and Vlad are carrying their weight. These two rank 10th and 11th among the team's hitters in fWAR. They're exclusively responsible for the offense being bad so far.

It's been brutal. They've also both had some bad baserunning mistakes and loud defensive issues.

25 games into the season and Bo and Vlad are probably both going to be at 0.0 WAR after tonight. Groundballs for days.

Springer hits a tank off the scrub reliever and then the 2/3 hitters come up and predictably hit groundballs to 2B

Can't wait to hear about how great he looks and all the team cares about is that he made it through healthy, before the team calls him up, he gets his tits lit, and gets sent away until September
