  1. Terrible pitcher Tanner Roark gets Washington to the bottom of the 7th with a 3-run lead over the Cubs, and Dusty Baker leaves him out there to give up 2+ runs even though was over 90 pitchers. I get it if its someone who is actually good, but why not quit while you're ahead and let Kintzler/Madson/Doolittle close it out?
  2. 5/10 name. Unlikely to have staying power.
  3. Big Erv is my favourite. It seems like he should really suck, but year after year he provides the PRODUKSHUN.
  4. I wonder if Bautista will retire. I hope he does. He's very bad now, and nobody wants to see him as one of those guys who spends his last few years going from team to team trying to latch on in a part time role.
  5. I'd set the O/U on 2.5 of them being back. Carrera because he seems well-liked and actually does a decent job as a 4th or 5th OF, Pearce because he's a talented player who's potential contributions in 2018 exceed his likely trade value, and Morales because he's not moveable.
  6. Well yeah, the team looks a lot better in 2018 if you add a couple of superstars, but I'll be shocked if the club is handing out $100M contracts in the offseason. I also don't share the optimism a lot of people seem to have about a Tulo bounce-back. Are you talking about bouncing back to 2-win level? Because that seems like a reasonable outcome. Any more than that seems very unlikely though. He hasn't been an above-average player since his 2014 hip surgery.
  7. It is not yet time for salami and cheese.
  8. It's really hard to see how this team ends up competitive next year. We're looking at something like: C - Martin (35) 1B - Smoak (31) 2B - Travis (27) 3B - Donaldson (32) SS - Tulowitzki (33) CF - Pillar (29) LF - Pearce (35) RF - DH - Morales (35) OF - Carrera (31) SP - Stroman (27) SP - Sanchez (26) SP - Happ (35) SP - SP - That's the framework of an old, injury prone core in its death throes, and given how reluctant the FO was to prop it up with significant investments in their first two offseasons, I'll be shocked if they make significant additions now that the team will be older and project even worse than the 2016 and 2017 versions. I think the most we'll see is mid-tier FA additions that amount to lipstick on a pig, and lots of public comments about how they want to win, while they know very well that they'll project to be average next year. And that's OK. The old, expensive, broken guys will be phased out eventually.
  9. I don't completely understand the love Verdugo gets.
  10. Yeah, there's no incentive for them at all. Yelich is better, three years younger, under team control for two years longer, and has a more diverse skill set.
  11. I don't get it either. I don't think Nova is replacement level, but this is a very bad trade.
  12. Justification seems pretty obvious from SG's perspective: He trades someone with basically 0 chance of being more than an SP4 or SP5 in our league for a guy who might be a legit ace, and pays a late first for the massive upgrade in ceiling.
  13. That seems like a lot of risk for Sammy to pickup a late 1st
  14. Yeah. Another lesser reliever returned Candelario. All signs point to SD likely having pretty good offers on a guy whose value only stands to decline.
  15. Ugh, Pedroia, Bour, and Trumbo to the DL within the last week. Despair.
  16. I predict that he doesn't find a deal until the offseason. IMO no return will be worth subtracting that monster bat for a title run.
  17. I'm very curious as to what red flags jaysblue is seeing in Cruz to make him sell so aggressively before the playoffs.
  18. Because you don't join any of the leagues. You basically don't exist.
  19. They don't even ever have interesting players. Who was the last good player who spent more than 1-2 years with the team? Jake Peavy? And before that, like Trevor Hoffman and Brian Giles? Their franchise player is a vanilla league average 1B signed long term for 85M.
  20. Yeah, he apparently wants to come over anyway. People are suggesting that he might sign for $9M or whatever the limit is, and have a handshake agreement for a 200M extension that would be announced during the season, but there's a lot of risk there for him: if he gets hurt, or pitches terribly, there would be nothing holding the team to their end of the bargain. And nobody knows how long this would have to be delayed for MLB to not consider it circumvention of the CBA.
