The Angels are suddenly a really fun team. Trout/Upton/Simmons/Calhoun are a great lineup core, and Ohtani is exactly what that rotation needed. If Richards/Skaggs/Shoemaker/Mayer can stay reasonably healthy, they have a chance to be pretty good.

So the Padres seem to have real interest in Hosmer. I guess you can never have too many mediocre 1B making $20M a year.

I'll be pretty disappointed if he signs there. They're such a boring, unimpressive team. I'm rooting for Chicago or one of the LA teams.

Yeah, if he chooses Seattle he had his mind made up before this process began and is signing there because of it's proximity to Japan. What do they have going for them? - Their team is not good in the present, and seems to be mismanaged. - Their future outlook is bleak - They haven't done a good job keeping pitchers healthy

So MLB teams feel inconvenienced by a guy who would get over $200M on the open market but will instead sign for a $5M bonus and spend three years earning the minimum, all because MLB's rules are absurd? Please excuse me while I shed some tears over the overtime they've had to pay to pursue him.

So basically the Angels get Maitan for $2.2M in exchange for taking on Johnson’s $4.5. Pretty good move considering there’s a decent chance Johnson isn’t worth nothing next year.
