  1. I think he's a lock to get in. Not sure about first ballot though. A couple things working in his favour: spending his entire career with one team, and the fact that basically everyone in and around the game loves him.
  2. Very happy that Votto walked away instead of tarnishing his career with 20 games of 65 wRC+ ball for a last place team.
  3. He will be. They're not paying him 4M or whatever coming off this season.
  4. It's actually unbelievable that you can have a rotation as good as Seattle's and still be as bad as they are
  5. A lot of the nerds on this forum don't think about the human element
  6. I wonder if things are bad enough that it's a "trade him for whatever you can get" situation in the offseason. His body language seems really bad. They could, maybe, hold and hope he returns to form. But if he's mentally checked out and going to sulk around next season too, they probably don't really want him around.
  7. I'm trying to think of recent trade that included a similarly distressed asset: - 1 year from free agency - relationship with team seemingly fractured - no shot at extension - has been roughly replacement level over the last calendar year - significant injury issues - 4 different IL stints for issues with the same leg over the last two seasons This feels like a Donaldson situation where the team ends up with almost nothing
  8. Ketel Marte just died on a check swing
  9. He has a real shot at 3000 strikeouts. Should finish this season over 2400. 4 more years of 150 gets him there. Can he stay reasonably healthy from 36-39?
  10. Trevor Rogers got shelled again
  11. Yeah. It's hard to see a situation where Shapiro and Atkins don't feel pressure to actually make the playoffs in 2025. I think we'll see them sell just about everything on the farm that has value (which isn't a whole lot) and some big FA splurges if they can find fits. I think they're desperate, and will make desperation moves.
  12. I think I might be more concerned about the pitching than the lineup, as far as the biggest hurdles to competing in 2025. There are a lot of interesting/useful pieces for the lineup. A few smart additions could make it decent, in similar ways to the way the Rays/As/Giants have pieced together boring but slightly above average lineups in recent years. The Jays have three pitchers who are locked into rotation spots next year, and they might not be good at all: Gausman's stuff has backed up to the point where it's below average (95 Stuff+), and he has an xERA over 5 in a full season of work so far. Berrios has been throwing slop all year, and looks like a fringe MLB starter. And then Bassitt is Bassitt. Lock in the 2-3 WAR, because he is a machine.
  13. The HoF voters need to get their act together and induct him already.
  14. Trevor Rogers blows
  15. Grade 3 strain. He'll miss the rest of the regular season, and likely the entire playoffs.
  16. I remember the 2-3 week stretch in April or May where Varsho was one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Just hitting nuke after nuke. That was fun.
  17. I'm a bit concerned that Ross Stripling will end the Sox losing streak tonight
  18. Ernie Clement and IKF are tied for 4th in fWAR among the team's reliever this year. Among players still on the team, Chad Green and Ryan Burr are tied for first in relief fWAR with 0.1.
  19. -1.6 fWAR too. Pretty easily the worst bullpen in baseball so far this season.
  20. Cavan Biggio has been DFA'd by the Dodgers
  21. On the other hand, it’s Oakland. They’d probably trade him for Clement, Francis, and 2 years of discounted Rogers internet
  22. Varsho is interesting. It's like the pre-season model didn't have enough data to take his defensive stats at face value, then he passed certain thresholds this season allowing the RoS model to properly value that part of his game.
  23. BTW, these were pre-season projections. Guys like Berrios, Bichette, Francis, Clase etc...project significantly worse via ZiPS RoS than they did preseason for 2025. Vlad projects better.
