    It feels like Toronto must place immense value on Luciano in order to do what they’re doing. And they’ve already displayed to KC that they’re willing to carry him on the 25-man. Seems like there should be a deal to be made: KC would be motivated to get something instead of nothing, and Toronto would be motivated to let what they clearly see as a very valuable asset develop properly at the cost of an asset of lesser value. I wonder which of two things is closer to true: KC is stubbornly refusing to talk and is turning down an asset out of principle, or Atkins prefers to keep Luciano on the 25-man than give up a lesser piece to move him to the minors.

    I think the growing concern is about how bad the position players have looked collectively. We're May 23rd now and they've combined for 0 fWAR. That doesn't necessarily mean that there are issues identifying MLB-caliber talent, but I think given the fact that none of us really know anything about Ross Atkins other than that Mark Shapiro trusts him, it's pretty reasonable that some alarm bells are being set off. Maybe everyone is just about to take off and this is all moot, but I'll be pretty concerned if we get to the halfway point of the season and the bats are still hovering at replacement level collectively.

    The Blues are the 6th team ever to sit in last place in January and make the playoffs, and the 1st of those 6 to win a playoff series.

    Yeah, the Osuna trade was one of Atkins' best moves as GM. He's every bit as good as Osuna, and they also picked up two other interesting arms with 6 years of control each. The deal was a coup given that Osuna carries huge baggage.
