Have you been reading any of the Twitter comments on this? 95% of them read like this. In the eyes of the Twitter-using public, Bauer is a rapist skull-fracturing woman beater who should be locked up for life. Even the Dodgers subreddit has almost unanimously buried him. I’m guessing that the Dodgers are legit concerned about the public backlash of continuing to roster him.

Yes. The amount of risk he took on here is insane, even if there's no criminal liability. Engaging in sex this rough with a 21-year old from IG that you're just meeting for the first time is just asking for exactly this kind of clusterf***.

That's a good point. I don't know what the repercussions would be if LA disciplined him outside the purview of the league's DV policy, but it could very well be negligible.

From what I've read, there's a very good chance the union would win a grievance if they scratched him, because that would reasonably be interpreted as punishment outside of MLB's collectively bargained DV policy. I think if it were up to LA they would have already indicated that he's scratched until more information comes to light, because starting him Sunday would be an unwanted shitshow. Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about.

The next few days are going to be interesting. The Dodgers can't discipline him because any discipline has to come from MLB, and apparently the union would likely file (and likely win) a grievance if they scratched him from his start despite a lack of suspension from MLB. Sunday could be an absolute zoo and PR nightmare.

Looks like The Athletic didn't publish the texts Bauer sent them in the updated article - they only mention that he sent them.

I keep expecting the Rays to stop running Wacha out there. Maybe this will do it.

I'm disappointed in the amount of people calling for him to be banned from baseball. This is currently a he-said-she-said situation, and the possible outcomes range from Bauer being a criminal, to him having done nothing wrong except exercise poor judgment.
