Toronto had about as much luck as you could expect in their bullpen last season. Dolis, Bass, Hatch, Cole, and Borucki all had sparkling ERAs in high leverage roles despite not actually being good pitchers. This year it's Seattle's turn.

Trading for Hosmer to effectively pay cash for assets would be acceptable. But actually keeping him on the roster would be unforgiveable. He's awful, and doesn't seem like the kind of person to accept a bench/platoon role graciously. -

Yeah, sounds about right. Fewer than 10 for sure. Off the top of my head, I don't think we've ever seen a sunk cost as big as Hosmer packaged with prospect capital to a team willing to eat the contract. -

So the Rangers have traded a borderline elite young winger for a face puncher and a 2nd and given Barclay Goodrow a 6 year deal at almost 4M per year. Tom Wilson has almost single handedly torpedoed their franchise.

Well if I thought Murphy was a 0.621 OPS guy I wouldn’t have acquired him! Mental accounting might have led to me undervaluing him. I considered him a trade chip from the time I acquired him. We’ll see what happens.

Ottawa's Director of hockey operations was the team's data analyst for multiple years despite having no background or experience in data analysis. They have an analytics consultant who isn't even a full-time employee of the team. There's nobody else. This is how you end up trading a 2nd round pick for Derek Stepan and signing Matt Murray to an absurd deal because he has Stanley Cup pedigree.
