  1. Very smart to get a jump Spanky on the rebuild front. There will only be so many buyers.
  2. I don't think the Jays have done a great job. Almost nothing of any impact has come through the system since Vlad and Bo. Kirk and Manoah are really the only two, and they've taken massive steps back this year. They've basically had to bring in an entire pitching staff from outside the org because they haven't been able to develop anything. And that's been costly, and resulted in a lack of organizational depth. Toronto looks like a team in the middle of a ~5 year competitive window right now than they do a team that's going to stay perpetually competitive.
  3. Baltimore's 2022 offseason was pretty embarrassing: their help for the great young core was spending 23M on Kyle Gibson, Adam Frazier, and James McCann.
  4. People were saying similar things about the 2021 Giants under Zaidi and the Thad Levine Twins back in 2019/2020.
  5. They absolutely have a great collection of young talent. But the real test of the org will be how they transition to contender and supplement it. We've seen the Braves turn a great collection of young talent into a long-term powerhouse with at least one WS title. Often teams botch this situation. We'll see what the Orioles are able to do.
  6. I'm still not impressed with the Orioles FO. They inherited Mullins, Santander and Hays, and took Rutschman 1st overall. Credit for drafting and developing Henderson. Starting pitching is bad. Get back to me when they prove they're able to supplement the cheap young talent with impact major league support, and do it in a way that allows them to contend in more than a short window. It's easy to collect talent when you're terrible for half a decade. The hard part starts now.
  7. Was that Atkins or the interim guy?
  8. Dude looks like he sells dimebags behind the high school gym. Full dumbass vibes.
  9. Basically every bullpen has elite potential. Cincinnati and Colorado are top-5 in bullpen fWAR this year. Seattle too, after trading Swanson and losing Munoz for most of the year. TB has the second-worst pen in the league. This s*** is impossible to predict.
  10. Their rotation of old f***s has been disastrous: Quintana - broke before the season even started Carrasco - kind of broken, and terrible when he's pitched Verlander - hurt, then replacement level when he's pitched Scherzer and Senga have both just been about average, and you expect more than that from them They're paying those 5 starters 128M this year, and they've been worth a combined 1.7 fWAR
  11. Nobody claimed Zach Plesac
  12. Sounds like a job for Cito Gaston
  13. It's absolutely pouring in Colorado and they're still playing.

Best part of this is Mark Stone winning a cup. Dude is an animal. Probably finishes behind Marchessault for the Smythe though.

The point is that he's a career backup. Any viable NHL goalie can get hot behind a good team at the right time. There's no reason to pay actual money for goaltending.

Adin Hill is about to be a cup-winning goalie. This should be the death knell for people thinking goalies matter.
  17. Damn, Haniger broke it up with 2 out in the 8th
  18. I benched him in DDL lol
  19. Kyle Hendricks taking a no-hitter into the 8th
  20. It's probably a lot of things. White is 7 years younger, controllable through 2027, and has been a reasonably effective swingman in MLB so far. And non-baseball stuff probably also played a role. Bass isn't good enough to get much rope if management perceives that he's making more work for them for non baseball reasons.
  21. I think Atkins is gone this offseason if the team misses the playoffs. He's been mediocre at best at spending money, and the team's development system seems to lag behind a lot of other teams.
  22. Guys, Bass was projected for an ERA over 4 RoS. If the team doesn't have the infrastructure in place to find a new replacement-level reliever, the org has much, much bigger problems than today's loss.
  23. Gurriel isn't really an asset. Look at how Hunter Renfroe has bounced around the last 3-4 years for basically nothing in return. Or how the Jays signed Kiemaier to replace him for a reasonably cheap 1-year deal. If the team feels the need to bring in a similarly valuable corner OF, they'll have ample opportunity to do it for close to free at the deadline.
  24. Along those lines, the team doesn't get any credit here for the shrewd Hernandez trade. Teo is another mediocre corner OF who isn't even playing up to his 14M salary. Swanson has been excellent, and is still under control through 2025. I'm still heated about everyone who wanted to extent a non-elite corner OF long term last offseason.
