  1. The Edmonton Oilers model. It tends to fail, because the type of management to finish at/near the bottom for multiple seasons is typically not the type of management to build a winner, even with top picks. That's why I'm worried that Houston will succeed. They seem to have a decent FO, just one with no interest in winning ball games right now.
  2. Here. Didn't you ask for it on this site?
  3. I'll be back in 2 hours or so to make my picks if they come up.
  4. This pleases me.
  5. I'm pretty surprised Ullmark was still available.
  6. How long have I been up for? God damnit GD, you couldn't have let me know in one of the PMs?
  7. Ironically enough, that one break lead to a WS win, and Cherrington is pretty dumn himself.
  8. Has any other GM in the game had more than one such stroke of franchise-altering luck in the last 4 years? Edwin/Bautista/Wells is just a ridiculous run. I'm trying to think of similar breaks for other GMs.
  9. In the context of the discussion, yes, certain opinions matter more than others. The point was that, while people certainly do complain about the Jays' 20-year rebuild, those aren't the same people that CHP typically argues with, and probably aren't the type to appreciate Hoyer and Epstein's work in Chicago.
  10. I was going to draw a parallel between him and AA who hasn't sold anything at the deadline, but I'm pretty much considered a troll here as it is.
  11. lmao, I don't even understand how that can be real.
  12. But they have the 2nd-worst record in baseball. Trading Shipley for Buehrle is dumn even by Towers' standards.
  13. Why would Arizona want Buehrle?
  14. Does anyone who matters actually whine about pre-AA decisions?
  15. It would be bad enough if there was undeniable evidence that it were true, but that's not the case. There's obviously a stigma against the turf, but there's no evidence to suggest that the type of turf used at RC is assiciatedc with increased injury risk. Baseless conjecture that's potentially damaging to the organization.
  16. Well that's a stupid thing to have said.
  17. We go through the same thing every offseason. Fans worry that guys like Sierra, Goins, JPA and Thames will make the opening day 25-man, and the team ends up finding solid replacements so it doesn't happen. No reason at all to believe this management team would give a spot to a replacement level talent.
  18. Sanchez at 13 is egregious.
  19. Lester is in the middle of a 5-6 win season. Acquiring him would cost at least 2 of our top 3 prospects.
  20. At the risk of getting into a Rays debate, people who claim to have seen the Rays' poor record coming don't sound nearly as smart as they think they do. Being right for the wrong reasons isn't really something to be proud of.
  21. That makes it a pretty difficult thing to discuss. What if he throws 90 innings of 2.9 ERA ball in the second half with peripherals that match? Would you take him over Buehrle at that point assuming Buehrle does normal Buehrle things over that time? I mean, obviously there are scenarios where a trade for Lee makes sense (medicals are completely clean) and scenarios where they don't (medicals say his elbow is ground hamburger).
