Eww. Lawrie looks like a 95-105 wRC+ guy while Rendon looks like a 120+ wRC+ guy IMO.

I'm with Boxy here. If the Royals are acquiring 2.5 cheap years of Edwin you're looking at something like Zimmer/Manaea + Dozier/Mondesi +. Edwin's value is astronomical.

I don't like counting my chickens before they hatch. Most likely scenario is that one of Hoffman, Norris, Osuna, and Sanchez becomes an average or better starter. And by that time one of Hutch/Stroman might have become a pumpkin. Projected rotations 2-3 years down the road never ever ever come close to working out. At least Hutch and Stroman are currently adequate starters in the majors.

Scorched earth. All of the team's best players are old as s***. Current players on the roster I'm penciling in for contention in three years would look something like: SP - Stroman SP - Hutchison OF - Gose 3B/2B - Lawrie So two mid-rotation starters, a 2-3 win infielder, and a nifty 4th OF. If there were more pieces in place it might make sense to keep one or both of Edwin and Bautista through the rebuild, but that doesn't make sense for two reasons: 1) they are far and away the team's two most valuable assets and rebuilding without trading them in for multiple pieces would be difficult, and 2) this isn't going to be a 1-2 year retool. The organization is devoid of young talent that projects to help significantly in the majors in the next 3-4 years. It could be 5 years before the team is ready to win, and at that point Edwin and Bautista will be on the wrong side of 35. Tear it all down .

I could see you making some noise in the playoffs. Darvish, Cashner, Lincencum, Morton, Ubaldo are capable of taking down any staff in a given week and you have the bats to win some categories against the best teams in a good week.

Quite enjoying. He's going to be around 50th overall in value this year if he's healthy ROS. Lawrie will be lucky to crack the top 400.

Actually, as egregious as my pick was, I kinda almost salvaged most of the value by trading him for Kuma. IMO he's not a significantly worse asset than 2nd rounder like Zimmerman, Cain, Pujols, Gonzalez, Hamilton, and Kinsler. Obviously I'd like to re-do the pick though.

The Edmonton Oilers model. It tends to fail, because the type of management to finish at/near the bottom for multiple seasons is typically not the type of management to build a winner, even with top picks.That's why I'm worried that Houston will succeed. They seem to have a decent FO, just one with no interest in winning ball games right now.

Ironically enough, that one break lead to a WS win, and Cherrington is pretty dumn himself.

Has any other GM in the game had more than one such stroke of franchise-altering luck in the last 4 years? Edwin/Bautista/Wells is just a ridiculous run. I'm trying to think of similar breaks for other GMs.
