Meh, maybe. Ryan commands huge respect around the league and ran a tight ship for a decade in Minnesota. If you said last week that Beeston would be replaced with a guy like that, we'd be thrilled. Huge, huge step up from Godfrey and Beeston IMO.

I don't see why Ryan would be a bad President. Baseball guy who commands a lot of respect around the league with a long track record of success as a GM in Minnesota. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with him than with Beeston.

Nah, just pay the compensation. If you think you have the right guy to run the organization successfully for the next decade, and he actually wants to come, the mediocre compensation that typically gets paid in these situations should be an afterthought.

The goal is to win, and his shortcomings have prevented him from doing that.

The only way to justify moving a catcher with the success he had offensively was if you believed he'd never stick at catcher. It's inexcusable that the team didn't know that a guy who was in their org for 4 years was a plus C defender.
