He's 28, and money isn't an issue for Boston. Maybe someone like Headley made more sense, but he improves the team on a reasonable term that won't hurt their flexibility going forward. It's not a flashy $/WAR move, but it improves the team and I don't think they'll regret it.

I can only keep one of Wada, Tim Hudson, and Clay Buchholz, so two are available for prospects.

Boston needs someone for the top of their rotation. If they land Scherzer or Shields, they looks pretty legit: Scherzer Miley Porcello Buccholz Masterson That's plenty of rotation for what should be an elite lineup.
