It's annoying, because the framework was there. - Let Michalek, Phillips, Neil, Smith - pass on Legwand - Keep Spezza - like $15 million in cap-space to add 1-2 D and an extra top-6 forward. Awful ownership + mismanagement shattered that dream though.

That trade would have looked a lot better if they'd either flipped him, or let him walk after playing out his deal. He's a negative-value asset now.

I refuse to acknowledge Phaneuf or Lupul as 'core' pieces. When your team would be better off trading you for a bag of pucks than keeping you, you're not part of the core.

Surprised nobody has listed the SF Giants. They're pretty top-notch even if the FO doesn't always make very sexy moves. Similarly, the Rays have a top-notch FO, but I'd never say they're a great organization overall.
