    Rays, Yankees and Rangers all on the verge of potentially falling out of the wild card spots. That would be crazy. Those spots are there for the taking if Baltimore or Cleveland can get hot.

    Agree It may not matter (I don't think Ruiz will get a qualifying offer, and it's irrelevant for Tanaka) but it also might (McCann and Garza, though less likely as targets for AA due to cost, may well get a QO from their teams)

    That was my initial thought exactly But they couldn't afford (or just didn't want maybe) to pay Russel Martin 2 years 17M (what the Pirates gave him), can they afford McCann? (That modest contract Martin got makes me all the more mad that we didn't sign him)

    MLBTR: Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets that it is a fait accompli that Brian McCann will be playing for a new team in 2014 due to the presence of Evan Gattis and Christian Bethancourt in Atlanta as well as the Braves' tight budget.

    Benefit-of-retrospect-useless-repeated-annoying-rant warning... Nothing would have helped this team more than having signed Darvish 2 off seasons ago, and therefore having had no need to trade for R A Dickey this past season. We'd now have Darvish, Syndergaard and D'Arnaud, and Arencibia might have lost his job in July. F me. Sigh...
