    I think Sierra will be best used at AAAA depth in case of injuries Gose appears to be the best choice for 4th OF next year. Defense and speed are probably more important than pure hitting if your 4th OF can't have all three.

    And Lawrie is getting smarter IYAM I don't know if he's dumb so much as just that he was way over aggressive in the past. I think he actually does have some baseball IQ, it just gets outshined by aggressiveness in the heat of the moment sometimes. I seem getting better.

    The problem is that teams like the Mets and Padres are pretty much shot and aren't likely to do much to help any tank cause other than their own

    Agree. Most games against Yankees, Orioles and Rays, all desperate to win every single game.

    Yep Some guys have baseball IQ (Bautista, Reyes) and some just don't (Davis, Sierra) I think you can only improve on that so much via coaching. Some guys just don't "have it"

    I guarantee you that Arencibia would still be the starter right now, even in Yan Gomes had started the season on the Blue Jays.

    Brutal Is Charlie Manuel terrible and old? Yes. But it's Amaro's fault that the team is hopeless and beyond repair.

    Phillies Sticking With Amaro As GM by Steve Adams, Sep 12 at 8:48 AM CST The Phillies have already fired longtime manager Charlie Manuel and replaced him with Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg on an interim basis, but team president and CEO David Montgomery told Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer that they're not planning to part ways with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. When asked if there was any thought to replacing Amaro, Montgomery plainly voiced his confidence by stating, "Ruben is our general manager."     Rays, Yankees and Rangers all on the verge of potentially falling out of the wild card spots. That would be crazy. Those spots are there for the taking if Baltimore or Cleveland can get hot.

    Agree It may not matter (I don't think Ruiz will get a qualifying offer, and it's irrelevant for Tanaka) but it also might (McCann and Garza, though less likely as targets for AA due to cost, may well get a QO from their teams)

    That was my initial thought exactly But they couldn't afford (or just didn't want maybe) to pay Russel Martin 2 years 17M (what the Pirates gave him), can they afford McCann? (That modest contract Martin got makes me all the more mad that we didn't sign him)
