1. He's going to get a fat raise in arbitration this off season and I don't think AA has ever let that happen. I'm suggesting extending him for 3-4 years at an annual average value less than he projects to get on 1 year arb deal. And I think Colby would take it. Guys like him (year to year contract, every season feels make or break) probably value the job security.
2. Exactly. We can't. And I don't want to trade prospects for a 2 WAR 2B. I'd rather spend $ on a catcher (McCann or Ruiz) and prospects or more cash on a starter (Tanaka, Garza, Price, etc...) The added payroll obviously means AA has to get smarter/more frugal after next season and will have to move some contracts or get savings from emerging young cheap starters.
3. I wish this wasn't so plausible
4. I can't believe how divisive this thread has become After watching "TOP PROSPECTS, TOP PROSPECTS HERE!!!" like Arencibia and Snider suck and become essentially non-major leaugers, is it somehow wrong to hope that Goins outperforms previous expectations? I see a guy who plays excellent defense at a position where that is what matters most, and hold out some hope that he could be a league average bat or at least close to it. I want him to succeed and I have enjoyed watching him play. If he keeps this up the rest of this year and in to spring training, I can see him having a shot at every day playing time. Add-on post rant: I recognize that there is a difference between HOPING this guy becomes good enough to play every day and EXPECTING him to.

Giants decided to wait until the 4th quarter to show up. What else is new? Would love to see Eli pull this off
6. Agree. I don't watch wresting ever, but I recognize it should be an Olympic sport.
7. Again, I can live with one of them playing second if we pick up a catcher and a 1/2 level starter. You don't need an all star at every position and has been said 100 times, the market for 2B outside of the unaffordable Cano is terrible.
8. I fully expect a Rasmus extension this off season and it's the right thing to do.
9. We can pick from Goins, Izturis and Kawasaki in spring training. Could be worse.
10. Yep. Santos, Delabar and Cecil have got the late innings thing covered. Dammit
11. Yet another no home run day
12. Too funny of a screen cap not to post. Sorry Goins, you're having a great game. And as Buck and Tabby are talking about it, here's what the TV is showing.
13. Maybe. With Izturis still available (and almost certain to be better next year after an off year) I can deal with not upgrading at 2B. It's catcher and a #1 or 2 caliber starter that we need. That's enough to ask for.
14. Santos is good Has stranded 17 of 18 inherited baserunners. That's impressive.
15. Yes they are playing well. But I'll still take Rasmus and Bautista over Gose and Pillar any day. We score more runs over the course of the season with them in the lineup. A lot more runs. But at least we know we have OF depth. And the pitching has as much do do with the winning as the defense, but yeah it's refreshing to watch a good defensive team.
16. OMG you're brutal. They're playing the Twins and have scored 2 runs today. I'd prefer to have those two in the lineup please.

18. Wow Lawrie robbed of an RBI single What a catch at second
19. Yankees vs Orioles 4 game series starts tomorrow. Could have WC implications if one of them takes 3 or 4.
20. Nice smooth play there by Reyes Rogers looking good. Lots of balls on the ground
21. Taiwanese ump show
22. He had an MRI done in the first half of the season when he was complaining about leg pains. This wasn't there then??? (When radiologists do a CT or MRI they don't just scan the part that hurts, they almost always look further) http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/jays-cabrera-remains-in-lineup-after-mri-exam-reveals-only-irritation-in-legs/article11949506/
23. This is a critical point. It's so easy to get excited about your favorite team's top prospects. But you need some perspective on where they sit overall. These guys look promising but non of them are a Bundy or a Wheeler level prospect and we shouldn't think of them as such while we muse about trade scenarios.
24. This is true. Darvish pitched more innings per year in Japan. Maybe because more durable, maybe because of his manager's style and the bullpen on that team. Hard to tell. It wouldn't appear to be due to results. Both have phenomenal WHIP and ERA.
