    Now 5-1. And Texas only has 2 hits. LOL. 3 errors and 1 wild pictch for Angels.

    Angels suck. Bad pitching and defense and Texas up 2-1 with both runs in earned.

    Due to bad forecast in Texas they started the game vs CAA at 11:00 AM. Glad they did this - they should do it more often when an important game needs to get played. 1-1 tie in the 2nd. Totally must win for the Rangers.

    Exactly. Not much. That's why so many people refer to the Wildcard game as a "play in" rather that "playoff" game It's exciting but losing a one game wildcard is devastating and not a very satisfying accomplishment to have made it if you lose.

    How humiliating is it that the Jays bumped the payroll to 120MM (9th highest in baseball), got all these veteran guys and we're looking at a potential bottom 10 finish. Meanwhile Oakland wins the division with a payroll under 60MM and Cleveland may well make the playoffs. It's maddening as a Jays fan.

    Yep. He sure is the weakest link on that team. Imagine if they'd hung on to Shields for another year. What a rotation that would have been. But they probably traded him at the right time.

    Tampa will be sweating tomorrow if they lose this Texas and Cleveland both winning. If all three games finish like this it's neck and neck and everybody has a chance.

    MLB.com: MIAMI -- The Marlins on Friday afternoon announced that they were relieving president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest of his duties, effective immediately. Beinfest, who has headed the personnel department since 2002, departs with three games remaining in the second 100-loss season in franchise history. Also on Friday, Jim Fleming was relieved of his duties as special assistant to the president of baseball operations. "The Marlins organization has decided to make some changes at the helm of our baseball operations," team owner Jeffrey Loria said in a statement. "Effective immediately, I have relieved Larry Beinfest of his duties so that he may pursue other opportunities.

    I think Rasmus should be extended before the arbitration deadline for 3-4 years at slightly less AAV than his best year of arbitration would get him. I think he accepts.

    Anyone feel like breaking down the payroll implications of: Trade Rasmus, Stroman, Janssen for David Price or Chris Sale. (Use Delabar or Santos for closer) Sign Ellsbury or Choo for 5 years Sign Ruiz (prefer McCann but Ruiz more realistic) Let Rajai walk and keep Gose as 4th OF (money savings) Trade Happ for nothing but salary relief (prob eat 1/3 of salary) Is that so outrageously expensive that it's not even worth discussing??

    Yes, Yankees have been mathematically eliminated. And are playing the worst team in baseball (Houston) Only Tampa Cleveland and Texas have a shot at the wild cards

    Which would you rather do? A. Keep Rasmus, Stroman and Sanchez and sign Garza or Tanaka (good but not ace caliber starter at ~ 15MM per) B. Trade Rasmus plus one of Stoman or Sanchez plus maybe Janssen for a higher level pitcher (eg. Price, Sale) and sign Choo or Ellsbury as a free agent B makes the team better in 2014 than A does, BUT it costs you a top pitching prospect and costs more $$

    Osuna is TJS recovering isn't he? And so young too. I'd think any team would MUCH prefer Sanchez or Stroman.

    AA has really painted himself in to a corner 1. He can't go half assed in to next year (ie. fail to updrade SP and C) or he's doomed for failure and he knows it 2. He's (presumably) pushing payroll limits to some degree 3. He's already traded away half the good prospects and the ones he kept aren't all performing. He can't really afford to trade for a David Price or Chris Sale without losing the bit of quality farm (Sanchez, Stroman especially) he has left. He really has no choice for 2014 but to throw good money after bad and pick up a FA catcher and SP and cross his fingers. If the team fails next year despite that it's time for a total rebuild and a new GM
