  1. "But the health issues have continued at alarming rate this year – 20 different players have needed 24 DL stints (tied for second in the majors) for a total of 1,102 games lost (third in the big-leagues) – and simply dismissing that as a fluke is no longer an option. One thing the Blue Jays are kicking around is creating a medical director type of position to oversee the way everything from strength and conditioning to daily maintenance is handled, and it’s an idea with some merit."
  2. Puig 2.0???
  3. It depends when that goes on the books I guess. It might not kick until Jan. 1 or something. I don't know. But you're right, it wasn't included in this analysis of the finances.
  4. Seems like a safe bet these days... And especially for these guys against Kuroda.
  5. Lawrie, Reyes and Edwin must be pissed about how hard they're playing and how badly the team is doing.
  6. Yeah this home run contest was half the reason I still watched at least some games. Now I barely care about this even because no once except JP seems capable of hitting home runs any more. Oh, and because the Yankees are hitting like 5 a game off our starters.
  7. If they're smart with it, yes
  8. Yahoo Sports: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/houston-astros-worst-record-baseball-making-most-money-175023013.html "And that $21 million is couch-cushion money compared to some of baseball's most bloated payrolls. Consider this: The Yankees have nine players who make more than the Astros entire roster makes. Alex Rodriguez, baseball's highest-paid player, is supposed to make $28 million this season. The highest paid Astro? That's Eric Bedard, who is making $1.15 million. A big chunk of the Astros' profits come from their TV deal, booming sources of income for pro sports teams these days. The Astros' deal pays them $80 million this season. Combine that with the very low payroll and an attendance that's not the absolute worst in baseball, and you've got a formula to count money."
  9. Have they got a decent deal? Also haven't seen attendance figures but that's probably the smallest part. Edit: Answering my own question. 80M in TV revenue.
  10. Stand to make about 100 million dollars this year, thanks to a 21 million dollar payroll and revenue sharing Will make more money than the last 6 World Series winners combined Crazy http://www.forbes.com/sites/danalexander/2013/08/26/2013-houston-astros-baseballs-worst-team-is-most-profitable-in-history/
  11. If only it wouldn't cost them 15.6 million dollars to cut ties with him this off season What a f'n disaster
  12. Classic "2012" RickyRo line right there
  13. This guy, of course: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J4zRhBxBRS0/ULp1O0aeIdI/AAAAAAAADYY/TD_fwhnc7Eg/s400/vizquel_omar_640_640.jpg:
  14. Pettite's catch on that comebacker looked like Keanu in The Matrix
  15. Best team in baseball until they had to start actually playing!
  16. The hilarity continues 3-0 in the first inning, no one out LOL Happ f***ing sucks
  17. Cause I took Edwin 3 times in a row last week, didn't know how long I had to wait to pick him again. Is it 3 times max per round per player?
  18. I am so f***ing sick of watching this team play meaningless games so early in the season. It's maddening.
  19. Was my pick for today OK???
  20. I think I've figured out why I'm so "meh" about Gibbons as manager. It's the lackadaisical demeanor he shows all the time. How he walks, talks, etc just seems too relaxed somehow. Yet at the same time I recognize all that really matters is decision making and fostering a good clubhouse where guys want to play hard and win. He probably does both reasonable well. Sometimes the optics just seem off from the outside looking in.
