  1. They absolutely do. I love the way Rasmus in particular plays and does it, however at the same time I agree with you that it shouldn't be part of the game.
  2. Lol, sorry. Get back to your paper. That's far more important.
  3. I said they were both just as valid a position based on a SSS, not equally ridiculous. Regardless, the point is that pointing to a guy's stats in a (VERY) small sample size is idiotic, as you can find examples of horrible stretches for even the best player on the planet. It's just stupid to keep repeatedly bringing it up and laughing at him for it, while trying to draw a conclusion off of it. Sorry, bit of a pet peeve for me.
  4. Of course he isn't (but he's not a 33 wRC+ guy either). Cherry picking the stat on Trout is just as valid as doing it on Goins. They're both ridiculous.
  5. How about looking at Trout's 2011 September / October with his 39 wRC+? I mean, if we're going to be derping with all these ridiculous cherry-picked SSS stats ...
  6. Goins showed pretty consistent walk rates in the minors, so I doubt we'll see that kind of ratio over the course of a season.
  7. I suspect AA is a little scared regarding signing someone at second after seeing Izzy (who was an above average defender prior to last year) flop so badly, and Boni be completely useless (he certainly was never going to be a wizard, but I don't think anyone thought he'd be quite as bad as he was). I can understand Goins being somewhat appealing to him under that scenario. I think if we see anyone come in to fill that hole, it'll be a young guy who doesn't hurt the payroll if he has trouble adjusting. I agree that Drew seems unlikely, but would be an interesting choice. Ellis at his age probably didn't want to deal with the turf, although who knows for sure.

Heh, Rask just got beat by a knuckle-puck from center ice. Man did that sucker drop.
  9. The long shot part is definitely intriguing. I get a sense though that it isn't Samardzija, but rather involves a series of trades that juggle a number of current roster players. Samardzija may very well be one of the other 3.
  10. Buehrle is only 34 right now (he just seems older), and Dickey is less concerning as a knuckleballer. We really only need 1 more guy we can count on for 200 innings. 2 would be nice, but with the prices this offseason I don't think it'll happen. One is essential. We don't have to surrender the 11th pick.
  11. He's not trying to get ALL 3 or 4. He has 3 or 4 targets via trade.
  12. Yikes at Pelfrey getting 2/11 PLUS bonuses.
  13. It's not an excuse for free agents looking for a long term deal, but it's absolutely one for guys looking to rebuild their value.
  14. It doesn't mean Floyd was interested in us. Really, any pitcher trying to build their value would be nuts to come to Toronto (or anywhere in the AL East). There should be some appeal to hitters though, especially once we finally eliminate the turf.
  15. It seems they don't view him as a starter, since they have been fairly clear in saying that the current plan is for Goins to start and Izzy to be a super utility guy. Now THAT we can (and have) picked apart for days. As for AA not being linked by the media to the 2B options, I don't really care. I DO care whether or not he is pursuing them behind the scenes.
  16. You could argue that it takes the league a certain amount of time to determine a player's strengths and weaknesses, and exploit them. The player then in turn also needs to adjust. After a time, you should reach a relative steady state representing the player's true level (probably overlapping with skill erosion). I would suspect that a lot of the early decline is due to this, with later decline due more to aging. This is why I would like to see a similar study relating to service time rather than age, and see if it produces the same approximate results. I don't know if I'm right or not, just thinking out loud.
  17. Izzy was not a bad signing overall (at the time). Sure the term could have been shorter, but if he was available this off-season (without last season having occurred) he probably would have been getting 5+ M. No one could have predicted he'd have one of the worst seasons in history.
  18. I don't think we can blame AA about Fister. He seemed just as frustrated as we are when asked about it. Infante is anyone's guess (maybe he didn't want to play here no matter what), but he turned down a higher AAV from the Yankees too it seems. Regardless, there appears to be lots of available 2nd baseman via trade that should be able to provide similar production to Infante at a much cheaper price. Provided we don't give up a top prospect or major current piece of the roster, that may be a preferable way to go anyhow.
  19. It IS possible that he doesn't want to play in New York too, or perhaps he has family in KC or something.
  20. Time until BTS changes his avatar to the Cards ... 3 ... 2 ... 1
  21. Normal recovery period seems to be ~ 1 year now, sometimes slightly less. There'd be an outside chance he'd be ready coming out of spring. If not, Dustin could start for a month or so, then switch to the pen.
  22. Yeah, actually after taking another look at the numbers, this could be a great move if the price is only a few million.
