It's a shame that countries can't qualify two teams considering the depth we have.
  2. In all reality, replacing JJ with Shark and trading for one of Seattle's 2nd baseman probably puts us in exactly the same spot we were in last year before the season started (projection wise), if not a very small amount ahead.
  3. Any team that tries to build a staff with that kind of system deserves to lose. You look to improve your club any way you can. If that means having 5 #3 caliber guys, then so be it. If those 5 guys put up the same WAR as a traditional #1 to #5 staff, you're fine (at least in terms of making the playoffs). It would almost be like a team passing up on Votto in order to get someone like Dunn, Alvarez, or Trumbo because they want the extra home runs in the middle of their order.
  4. I wonder if Happ might be a better comparison for Wood.
  5. I suppose it depends what else you could get for Kinsler's salary and whether you think Liriano will repeat what he managed last year or not (I have my doubts). Still, I have to assume you could turn around and trade Kinsler if you wanted to for more of a return than Norris and Stilson.
  6. I wonder how much it has to do with workload, and how much is due to teams getting several looks at him by the time the second half rolls around. I remember when Marcum was here, by the third or fourth time he faced them in a season they stopped chasing the changeup.
  7. In his career, Buehrle's March/April numbers aren't too good. May and June kind of make up for it and push that first half ERA down a lot. There's so much variance though that I'm not sure it really means much.
  8. I believe it could be as long as a month from the posting date, although I suspect he'll want to get a deal sooner so he has a month or so to move over here before spring training.
  9. It's actually kind of shocking just how well Redmond actually pitched last year, especially for a fly ball pitcher in our division.
  10. Salazar has never thrown more than 111.1 innings in a season. He may be filthy, but he won't be in the rotation for the entire season. I don't know what to make of Kluber. Masterson I like.
  11. I'm not sure any team in baseball has what you seem to consider as depth.
  12. I don't see why not edited to say: I don't think they can tack on something to the contract, but they could replace it with a new one that added the option.
  13. I just don't see Jimenez being quite that bad either (well, maybe ERA if he comes to the AL East). I would probably put Jimenez closer to 4.00/3.6/3.75. Garza seems about right, and Santana is reasonable unless that new pitch he's working on changes things. It will be an interesting proof of concept to see how your projections fare.
  14. The only thing that bothers me is the way spring training was apparently run last year, and I suspect that's going to change this year.

It's possible some of the players may have refused to go also, and when you think about it with the olympic testing standards for performance enhancing drugs being much stronger, that could also be a factor with some players not going.

I don't mind the shootout overall for regular season games, but I think the overtime period should be 10 mins instead of 5.
  17. I think that depends whether the 15M is allocated elsewhere or not.

    Amazing job on the anthems.
  20. Apparently Jimenez is asking for 17 to 20M / year. I don't think he'll quite get that much, but I doubt he gets less than 15M per (which I'd be okay with). As much as Tanaka is holding the market up, I think the Yankees are too with the A-Rod situation. If they can't stay under the cap, they'll probably sign at least 2 of the starting pitchers.

Winter classic is starting for anyone interested (with snow coming down). Should be an interesting game.

Keep in mind JFaS is a Flames fan
  23. It would be nice if they didn't rotate through so many in a game too. I'd like to see a rule come in that a pitcher either has to face a minimum of 3 batters, or has to get the final out of an inning before they can be replaced. Put an end to this nonsense teams are doing using sometimes 4 or 5 pitchers an inning.
  24. Man that Chacon season was bad. 6.31 xFIP, 7.11 ERA, 7.39 BB/9, 1.942 WHIP, and still put up 35 saves lol. How the hell did he keep his job that long to even manage that?
  25. Yeah, that was horrific. I might have to go with Chacon though in 2004.
