  1. This is what I think. Houston's pitching staff (particularly in a 5 game series) could be deadly. You never know what might happen with that short porch in Yankee stadium, or with their vets.
  2. I doubt it's just Gibby's decision. I'm sure the entire coaching staff gets together with AA and the front office personnel to decide.
  3. That Coca Cola ad is terrible. So many colors continuously flashing, it's hard to watch.
  4. Hard to say with much certainty. Concession, parking, and apparently merchandise revenue goes fully to the teams, so if we estimate 9 total home games (450,000 fans) and an average of $10 / fan (profit), that would be 4.5M (might be on the low end). Ticket revenue is more interesting. All ticket revenue from both stadiums is pooled. You don't just get revenue from your home games. The Commissioner's office takes 15% of all ticket revenue. For the wild card games, 42.5% of ticket revenue goes to the players pool, 42.5% to the team. For the division series, 51% of ticket revenue goes to the players pool, 34% to the team for the first three games. The teams get 85% for the remainder of the games. For the championship series and world series, 51% of ticket revenue goes to the players pool, 34% to the team for the first four games. The teams get 85% for the remainder of the games. Based on our seating prices for full playoff strips (facing the Yankees would push it higher), that could mean approximately 150M total revenue for a team's total playoff appearances if they make it to the world series. 22.5M of that goes to the commissioner's office. That would leave the WS teams with as little as roughly 21.5M and as much as 32M (I think). Some sites online seem to suggest half that, so I'm not 100% sure on the numbers. I may have missed something. Now for the TV revenue, which will likely contribute the most. As far as I know, teams keep all their TV revenue for the post season. I'm not 100% sure on that though. Estimating 40 ads per game (might be low), and 100k per ad (premium ad slots seem to range between 100k and 200k for the type of viewer numbers we can expect, so I'm being conservative, I think), that would mean an extra 4M per game. That would mean 44M to 76M extra for the full playoffs. Taking roughly median numbers for games played, a full playoff run based on those could be worth 90M.
  5. I'm very much in favor of reducing it to 150 games, and bringing in a much more balanced schedule. Maybe you play 3 games against each NL club each year, and 7 against each AL club (for AL teams). Start the season a few days later, and end the season on the second last day of September (giving a one day buffer).
  6. What we DO know, is the following: We can't play the Royals in the first round, only the Yankees, Astros, Angels, or possibly the Rangers (not sure off-hand who holds the tiebreaker between the Rangers and Astros). The Yankees will be pitching Tanaka in the wild card game (6th). So if we faced the Yankees, he would be out of play until game 3 (11th). That would be a big advantage. The Astros appear to be set up for either Keuchel (on short rest) or Kazmir to start the wild card game. Missing Keuchel until game 3, and only getting him once, would be pretty awesome. If they go with Kazmir, someone could get Keuchel followed by McHugh in game one and two. That could suck. The Angels have Richards going tomorrow (they really have no choice), so the wild card game would likely be Heaney. We'd still get Richards potentially twice. If the Rangers are the wild card team, it looks like Gallardo will pitch the game. We would get Hamels twice whether they're the wild card team or the division winner.
  7. It's not a simple process (unfortunately). It has to be done by manipulating backup databases, selecting exactly the right information, and hoping to hell you don't screw everything up trying to reinsert it. It's not like you can just press a few buttons and it magically reappears. Bottom line is, unless it's someone who only set up the account to spam, or you ask for your account to be removed, no account should ever be deleted, nor posts mass removed.
  8. I kind of think he's a guy who a rebuilding team could take a flyer on protecting, on the VERY remote chance something finally twigged for him. Any team with even a slight shot at contending shouldn't be even remotely thinking about it imo.
  9. I'd like to suggest that no one's account should EVER be deleted, unless they only sign up as a spammer (links to their blogs, pharmacies etc), newly created duplicate account, or specifically ask for it to be. When that happens, we lose posts that may contain useful information (or lose entire active threads, as we've seen happen).
  10. I think the issue is, a mod should be looking to deescalate a situation, not add fuel to it. Also, if I'm not mistaken, two of the mass bannings have come after the mod has made offensive posts without provocation themselves, then got upset when they were (rightfully) called on it. It would also be really helpful if mods could be added to the ignore list (for posts, obviously not for PMs since they still need to mod). A one day wait period after you sign up with a new account, before you can post, would also eliminate a large portion of the problem.
  11. Zaun didn't say that Price was injured. He said that he didn't understand the move, and then laid out a few of the possibilities that could explain it. One was that there was a slight injury, one was that Price would pitch to Tulo in a simulated game (which appears to be the case) instead.
  12. It's going to cost the Orioles more money to attempt to dry the field than they bring in at the gate.
  13. Allowing multiple selections would have been nice imo
  14. What was it we ended up deciding about international players coming to the NHL?
  15. Or possibly all of them (although if we add points, I'm not sure we should also split ppp), so maybe add faceoff wins and points
  16. I had kind of wondered about that too. I wish they had something like special teams goals and special teams assists instead of just separated though. Would teams put up enough points per week in each category with them separated to not add too much of the luck factor like we have with shutouts? As for the points, like Cyborg suggested, it would add more weight to the points slightly, which emphasizes them a little more over some of the other categories. I don't know if it should be done or not, but I think it's worth discussing.
  17. Adding points as well could be worth discussion, if we're adding another non (direct) scoring category like faceoffs.
  18. I'd be okay with it (I'm pretty indifferent), but I'd like to see at least one offensive category added in its place. After sleeping on shutouts last night, I just felt, even if the impact is very small, that it wasn't fair to change a scoring category right before the start of the season. Let's decide on exactly what we want to change now, and then put it into place for the start of 16-17. That'll give everyone a full year to prepare.
  19. Doesn't Yahoo hockey now support 2 week finals? If so, that's a change that would be good imo.
  20. Yeah, I changed my mind about removing a goalie slot. It would be too annoying to have 2 goalies going, and only one slot. Especially if you got unlucky and both started on the same night for a long stretch. We could remove SO this year I guess, since I doubt anyone really cares. Doesn't matter much to me. I don't think the min appearances at 1 would be that bad. If someone wants to sit on the categories after one good start, they're going to lose at least half of them (assuming SO is removed). Two is fine too though, I was just thinking that if someone loses their #1, getting two starts from a backup can be a challenge, and almost forces overpaying in a trade. I'd say add all of PIM, FW, and P in 2016-2017. That would make goaltending stats 4/15, which seems reasonable.
  21. I'm kind of thinking any stat categories shouldn't be changed until the offseason. If we decide now though, people will have all season to prepare for it. For now, just make min appearances be 1. Next offseason, remove shutouts, and add one or more categories to the skaters (PIM, FW, or simply points, or all 3).
  22. There's probably only 20 guys out of the 30 that have firm grasps on the starting job. Not really sure it's that big a deal. The biggest issue is really if you have only one #1, and he goes down with injury. Maybe change the mandatory appearances to be 1 per week or something, and remove shutouts. Could also have just one goalie slot I guess.

LMAO. Apparently one of the Flames players had a big hit and a fight in the game versus the Canucks, then someone realized he wasn't supposed to be in the lineup (so he had to leave).
  24. I have for a LONG time. I don't have any more picks though.
