    Even at $15M, is it really all that bad? There's a reasonable chance he averages 2.5 WAR for the contract length.

    Kirk is roughly equal to Moreno. You can hate his weight, and I'm not sure I'd want to bet on him as he gets deeper into his free agent years, but he's a lot more valuable than people give him credit for. He's a legit starting catcher. IMO we absolutely need 2 legit big bats. Maybe not Soto big, but well above average. Ideally it would be LF and 3rd (or possibly 1st if we're sure Vladdy can handle 3rd full time), with Clement sliding into a super utility role.

    My issue right now is injuries to top players. I'm just hoping I can tread water until I get a few of them back.

    Wasn't it KK who talked about the next level scouting reports and game plans from the Dodgers? If I'm the Jays, I think I look to hire him to improve those aspects. He can help out with the MLB team and prospects as well.

    I would not be surprised to see the Yankees walking away from the contract.

    It's not like it's a terrible contract though. The negative value is because of the DH positional WAR adjustment, which IMO doesn't mean much when evaluating a DH. He's still a well above average bat.

    A one game ban is egregious. I have no problem with them going for the ball while it's in the air and it's not clear if it's in the field of play (within reason), but actually holding his wrist / glove, bending it back, and ripping the ball out could have seriously hurt Mookie. They should get a minimum of a 5 year ban from all stadiums and never be allowed a seat in the first 3 rows again.

    These first few picks will be interesting (whenever it eventually happens). Depending on team needs, etc, I think there's at least 3 guys who could go #1 and possibly as many as 5.

    I think this is the first time in the last 30+ years that our pen has put up negative WAR - and it's a fairly substantial negative at that.

    Maybe, but his walk rate has also dropped significantly. It's likely he's actually making better pitches as well.

    We're the only team in baseball with negative WAR from our relievers this season (and not by a little).

    Shatkins has a lot of work to do in the offseason. Meanwhile Pearson (the one trade I didn't like at the deadline) has pitched to a 1.86 ERA and 0.621 WHIP since getting traded.
