  1. Probably Strahm.
  2. Man, that was a war Spanky! Good matchup.
  3. Apparently with the money that's deferred he's getting 31.7M / year. In the last 3 years he's put up 5.4, 4.5, and 4.1 WAR which according to Fangraphs is worth 43.1, 36.1, and 33M.
  4. This is a bloodbath. It almost feels like the Eagles defense has put up more offense than the Chiefs offense.
  5. Yeah, I did. WTF did we give up a 2nd round pick just to dump him? How much cash did he come with, or does it create an exemption or something?
  6. I don't think I'd want to give Arenado a 6 year contract. He'll be 34 in April.
  7. A few interesting moves by the Raps. I like the pickup of Wiseman, and getting a 2nd for Mitchell seems like pretty good value (it's basically Wiseman for Mitchell and eating an expiring contract). Not sure about Ingram, but the Raps have actually looked pretty good when they've been healthy and he definitely adds some legit scoring punch to that.
  8. According to MLBTR, because of the luxury tax hit, the Mets will effectively be paying him 59M next year.
  9. I'm not sure we need relief upgrades (I wouldn't turn them down). We definitely need 1 more big bat though. Bregman is perfect, but I suppose someone like JDM would at least help.
  10. The money is part of it, but Flaherty in 2023 also posted a 4.99 ERA and 4.36 xFIP and in a 2022 (limited starts) put up a 4.25 ERA and 4.93 xFIP with walk problems both years and has had a lot of injury issues beyond that. Both players project pretty similarly but Scherzer has a much better health record and has much better, or at least consistent, command. I have more faith in Scherzer meeting his projections than I do in Flaherty, but Flaherty probably has a higher ceiling. I would have been happy to get either of them though.
  11. I'd rather Max, but I would have been okay with that deal too.
  12. If he performs like last year, it'll be a hell of a bargain.
  13. With how long it takes Boras to get deals for this clients, I'm not sure he works on any day that ends in a 'Y'.
  14. I'm still not convinced Bo is gone. He was part of the group who tried to convince Sasaki to play here. Those aren't the actions of someone who is unhappy with the club and/or wants out. I'm not saying he WILL resign, just that I don't think it's as unlikely as people seem to think.
  15. The Jays have spent a lot the last few years in upgrading Skydome. I wonder if that money is now available for the payroll?
  16. This is excellent news! Now we just need one more legitimate bat. We're not the Dodgers, but this team could be really, really good next year.
  17. There's still a ton of good relievers on the market too. Picking up another big bat could go a long way to convincing some of those that the team is legit next year.
  18. I don't think the team would have front loaded Santander if they were worried about the CBT this year.
  19. Straw also steals bases with a high success rate, which is nice to have off the bench late in a game. He's a useful player, just not the best use of resources.
  20. Oh thank god. Now we need a second big bat and things will be looking a lot better. I don't even care about the five years at this point.
  21. The league will definitely look to do something about this. Rather than a hard cap, they may just put in place a ban against deferred money though. They could also tax deferred money, or they could consider the full amount to be the salary rather than adjusting for present value. What the Dodgers are doing is not good for baseball. I'm thinking there's going to be a LONG strike in two years (rather than a shorter strike that was probably going to happen anyway).
  22. That article also stated that the money to Straw wouldn't affect the Jays signing other people. There could be more money available than we thought ... or cue the JP lie quote.
  23. We'd actually be a pretty good fit for Scherzer. The dome means better pitching conditions. Schneider pulls the starters early anyway, so he wouldn't be overtaxed. If the Jays are out of it at the deadline, he'd be pretty much guaranteed to get moved to someone in the thick of the race.
  24. It looks like Manny Cedeno, Ayden Johnson, Jhoan De La Cruz, Cristopher Polanco, Carlos Taveras, Deivid Coronil, Carlos Alvarez are still not signed from MLB's top 50 list. Polanco was already a guy rumored as signing with the Jays. It's possible they use the extra to try and snag one or two of those other guys. It's use it or lose it, so they may as well back the extra truck up one someone.
  25. The Dodgers have pretty much cemented a very long strike when this CBA expires.
