  1. You do love your Indians pitchers but I didn't figure anyone would have him too high. I wanted him at 26 but traded that pick and didn't care to do more research.
  2. I say you are all f***ing wrong. Not only am I taking a pitcher I am taking a short one. Sheffield, SP Indians. Justus!
  3. didn't everyone say that the past few years too though?
  4. when I think of underslot guys I think of the pre-draft $10K deals. Right now it'd still be slight underslot Seniors I think.
  5. A little early isn't it. And for the Jays do they need it at this point? I suppose setting up the 11th round and beyond guys.
  6. Kind of missed in all the draft stuff was the 16 inning game between A&M and TCU to fill the final 8 in the CWS. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25209113/after-epic-am-tcu-game-field-is-set-for-2015-college-world-series Two errors to end the game hurts. The Vandy and Fullerton matchup is a great matchup and I see them meeting again in the semis.
  7. Best profile of guys that I've heard. I like the guys that drop because they probably don't have a position.
  8. "pitches like a guy who's Dad has been around the game"
  9. got to try something new when you are the Padres.
  10. and still every year those guys get drafted high. I doubt the fact that some of them don't work out changes it.
  11. I'm guessing that Orimoloye's commitment to Oregon is stronger than what was anticipated. With all the talk of him being the first African born player to potentially reach the majors i thought of him as someone that would sign.
  12. Yeah it's better to have a hard deadline...hard is always better than soft.
  13. Two years ago I was still dealing my picks mid way through the draft
  14. I have one pitcher super high on my list (I'd have him at #3 overall) after that it's all current draftees.
  15. KingKat...have you accepted the deal? Stanek for 26?
  16. I'm the only guy in the draft who doesn't move up a spot with the #14 disappearing. Edit...Spanky doesn't benefit either. This opens up my argument again. While I was really s***** at picking up players in the waiver draft, I still contend that those picks are more useful than 2nd rounders in the MiLB draft.
  17. For every 10 McGuires you get one Wacha. Honestly I'd super surprised if he's at AA by next year. Other Missou state guys progressed slowly as they tend not to overuse them in college (Pierce Johnson, Shaun Marcum) although Ross Detwiller moved up really fast. And this is going to sound worse than what it is...Harris is no Detwiller (who didn't work out great but was really advanced at this point in his career)
  18. Tough to compare. He would be in the boat of a guy that showed little college progression for his Freshman and sophomore years and now started to show some signs. Chances are he's a 5th or 6th rounder though. Really tough to compare the two though. Instead lets look where he is compared to other prep bats from his class. (just where they have progressed to and their MiLB OPS as I'm not going too in depth here) Buxton AA .859 Almora AA .756 Dahl AA .858 Russell MLB .897 Cecchini AA .707 Hawkins AA .734 Davis LowA .682 Seager (oops) AAA .929 Trahan A .758 Coulter High A .848 Brinson High A .795 Robertson AA .805 Gallo MLB 1.010 Olson AA .850 Barnum High A .696 Winker AA .863 Valentin High A .734 Nay High A .712 Bean A .682 so the point is to stop viewing Davis as a first rounder (he's not even keeping up with the catchers from his class), instead view him like anyone else from his draft class that needs continued improvement to make it.
  19. Nix isn't JUCO. IMG Academy post Prep (he trains with the high school guys and it's still being coached as well as any College program out there, its just a question of competition but being Florida playing post prep is still probably as good as small conference ball) allows him to still go to college without any eligibility issues. NCAA hasn't decided if he can take a scholarship though. His demands may still be high. Would seem odd though as he just seems to want to play pro ball. It might be a situation where every team just happens to have one player ahead of him available.
  20. Got one part wrong...I'm really quite pleased. This org is completely behind me now. It was interesting to hear that draft wise Friedman and the others in Tampa disagreed as Friedman wanted to go against the numbers and draft pitching early. Tampa showed it this year taking prep bats so far.
  21. Guys like Rios are reasons why purely stat scouting a top draft pick (although Rios was not a first round guy, Jays took him there and he signed for 2nd round money). You'd have to also know that he gained 20 pounds in his first year with the org and his swing was completely re-tooled. The HUGE plus side of Rios was that he was not striking out. K-Rates are so much more of an indicator in the minors than hit rates. Power being the other big indicator. Davis has shown his first dip in his K-Rates and can almost be watched month to month now. I'm not saying that everyone that has low K-Rates is Alex Rios. But for a guy that is raw and athletic like Davis (or Alford) I'd rather see the K-Rates going down...than more hits falling in. BB rates are nice to see and sometimes being patient is a factor in the KRates too (more patience means working with 2 strikes more often) but it just has to be known that Minor league BB rates often don't carry over into the MLB. We should not expect Alford to carry over a 15% BB rate...so the K-Rate better come down. Honestly I don't even have stats on this stuff. This is purely experience and spending far too much time trying to look at numbers/minor league players.
  22. this is part of the reason I traded all my picks but one. I'll just be holding up the draft as I don't think I'll have time for prep work. And I'll use the DDL as my prep work for the Fantasy Challenge draft. Also I'd rather have a 24 year old in High A throwing 97 (with poor K-rates) than some 18 year that I'm reading a ******** scouting report that comps them to Mike Trout and be disappointed when they can't hit a curve.
