  1. Boston has one hit and one walk since the first inning! Tampa's only used four relievers, so to make an impact we're going to need this to go a while longer. They're warming up the rapist.
  2. Wow. Who do we want to win this game (after they hopefully run each other into the ground)? I'm having trouble deciding lol
  3. I don't agree with that nonsense either but this game shouldn't change anyone's opinion. It's one game and it's not like he was untouchable in it (4.02 FIP).
  4. SPEEEEEEEEEEEED IT KILLS KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLlS
  5. Oh lol. These GDTs are hard to follow. Dickey has his ERA down to 3.90!
  6. Michael Kay gets excited when the opposition hits home runs too, his 'see ya' call isn't a homer thing. The Yankees have a good broadcast team.
  7. Jimenez has turned it around guys! 98 xFIP-. That's not much worse than the Orioles can expect from him. Santana at one year looks like the better option though. I care about projections a lot more for hitters than for pitchers. Pitchers just change too much. You have guys adding and losing velocity, adding pitches, bettering their command/control, etc. I put just as much or more stock in year-of peripherals than I do in long-term track record.
  8. I wouldn't oppose it. 5.39 xFIP. They need to squeak out of this with a win.
  9. With the 17th pick in the First Round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Kansas City Royals select Brandon Finnegan, a left-handed pitcher from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. http://web.usabaseball.com/assets/images/0/1/2/67905012/cuts/finnegan_640_8c9fd44d_nqus9pez.jpg "Our scouts love the way Brandon competes -- he's dominated this year as TCU's Friday starter. We're a four-seam/curve organization and those are his Brandon's two knockout pitches. He has good feel for a changeup too and we expect that to develop into a quality offering. We've had Brandon up to 98 this spring, he's usually sitting in the 91-94 range which is above-average for a lefty and gives him a front-of-the-rotation upside. It must be said that he's of below-average height at 5'11, but as a lefty with great stuff we don't see that as an issue. Look at how Yordano [Ventura] is out there proving shorter guys can get it done too. Danny Duffy is a guy a lot of our scouts compare Brandon to stuff-wise. Four-seam/curve lefties with heavy fastball and similar arm action. Brandon has an advanced feel for pitching too with good control and command for a player of his experience level. We feel fortunate to be able to select him at this spot and expect him to make his way through the Royals system very quickly. Between he, Kyle [Zimmer], Yordano, Danny and others, we're very excited about the future of the Royals pitching staff."
  10. They're great if you're realistic about what they represent. They summarize what a player's past performance means with regard to his future. I look at a lot of the peripheral stats that projections take into account; they're a good way to check what those peripherals mean at face-value. Obviously they tend to be conservative too. Sometimes a player changes his true talent drastically in a short span of time; projections will be late on picking that up. Most of the time that's a good thing though, it's important to be skeptical of players deviating from their established level.
  11. With an extension in place, I'd certainly think about it. Samardzija is really good.
  12. I agree! I hate it when teams wears colour jerseys all the time. This year they've been much more conservative with it. The road greys are my favourite of the three too.
  13. Blue Jays 2014: 111 wRC+ Rangers 2011-12: 109 wRC+ The 2003 Red Sox had the best team wRC+ in recent history at 120. The 1927 Yankees were at 126.
  14. Everyone really bought into that team though. I remember us being the big story of the early season, league-wide. The Wakefield game will forever be burned into my retinas. ---- Re: this season, as I posted in the AB2014 thread, the Jays have a better than 50-50 shot at making the playoffs per Fangraphs. They have a better shot than the Yankees and Orioles do COMBINED (54.7%: 54.4%). We got this.
  15. Oh I'm up in that thing? It'll have to wait until tomorrow, I'm supposed to be working on a calculus assignment right now.
  16. I actually found Howard Roark amusing lol. This new character takes things too far.
  17. A while ago it was suggested that Smedley was Howard Roark. Does anyone know if that's true? They seem pretty similar.
  18. Morneau has a 143 wRC+ (with a reasonable .319 BABIP), meaning he's been legitimately great and isn't merely reaping the rewards of park factors. ------ Per Fangraphs, the Blue Jays are now a better than 50-50 bet to make the playoffs (55.6%)!
  19. A's score a run off the rapist in the 11th, looks like they'll win!
  20. My first major injury in a while. I'll probably need to get another bat now.
