9-2 isn't actually bad.  8-0 looks bad, like we didnt even try.  But 9-2 looks like, yea we tried a bit but it just wasn't enough to beat the rays, who are basically a super team.  In a few years we will come back much stronger.  As soon as Vlad is off the books I could see us making a run at the playoffs.

I agree but idiots like me also purchased tickets before the season started.  Speaking of which, i have 4 General Admission tickets against the Tigers on September 16 for 20 bucks each if anyone wants lol.

Just tuned back and Holy crap... ive seen more position players on the mound this season than any previous season I can recall in a long long time.

I don’t think you can really fire anyone over this, outside of maybe John Schneider or Popkins if the Jays wanted to shake things up inside the clubhouse, but even that wouldn’t make a ton of sense given where the blame actually lies.

At the end of the day, this is mostly on the players who are struggling. Vladdy, Kirk, Springer, Varsho, and others simply haven’t produced at the level this lineup needed. A manager or hitting coach can only do so much.

Yeah, the manager usually becomes the scapegoat in situations like this. I don’t believe this season is Schneider’s fault, and I don’t think he deserves to be fired over it. There’s only so much a manager can do when key players simply aren’t producing. He can shuffle the lineup, manage matchups, and try to push different buttons, but he can’t make Vladdy, Kirk, Springer, Varsho, etc. suddenly hit like they did last year.

That said, it doesn’t mean Schneider is above criticism. You can absolutely question some of his decisions, whether it’s lineup construction, bullpen usage, or sticking with certain players too long in certain spots.

Atkins & Shapiro aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I think Atkins and company are super active again this offseason, hopefully adding an impact bat or two to this lineup.

Unfortunately, given how some of our expiring contracts have performed recently, you might be lucky to get 40 cents on the dollar at this point.

At least it looks like it will be a seller's market.  The parity means a lot of teams believe they can get in.  Very few will be pure sellers, which should help us get better value.

Mason Miller got the A's a Top 5 prospect in baseball. If Varland could get you anywhere close to that (a Top 25 prospect, plus, would you do it?

I think their will also be a market for Gausman and Bieber (if he can string a few good games together here). Which starter is going to get moved who's better than Gausman?  There may be 1 or 2, but not many (I doubt).  There will be a market.  Setup men like Hoffman and Rogers will have value.  Clement will too.  Will be fascinating to see what happens.

It doesn't matter if it's a firesale. Gausman, Varsho and Springer at bare minimum have to go. Even if it's to keep the soda pop machine full.  Still  meat left on the bone for a mini rebuild to get back on track.

Perhaps we will have to post the off-season thread a bit early this year.

I have no idea.  You have to first identify how what the problem is with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 

If it is a chronic injury that can't be fixed ever...  then firing people will not do much good.   Release him I guess and eat the 500 million.  

If it is fixable then you start thinking who, on this planet of 7 billion people can help Vlad ?  And the same skills that will help Vlad will help other players get to their potential. 

Why is this team dead last in offense?  Is it mechanics?  Mental?  Injuries?  Random?  If the first 3 identify who is good at helping players with mechanics, mental stuff and handling injuries and get people like that. 

So perhaps instead of thinking who should be fired, identify what the problem are, and identify what coaching, management, and health and fitness and skills you need in the organization to fix it.  Then get those skills, and if needs to come at the expense of firing some people, do that then.

Tough call on Varland, but you can always acquire a closer or high-end reliever in the offseason. As much as I’d hate trading him, the Jays definitely have to be open to it if the return is strong enough.

I think there would be a market for both Gausman and Bieber, especially Gausman. Any contender looking for a veteran starter with big-game experience would have to view him as a pretty nice add.

Hoffman and Rogers should have value too, but since both are still under control for next season, I could see the Jays keeping them around rather than creating another bullpen hole.

Clement would definitely have value, but I doubt they move him given his popularity and how useful he is. I’m not sure the return would be worth it either, unless a team really overpays.
