Looked like he barely touched the ball. Some serious power there, built like and hits like Barger

Yeah he is one big dude. Listed at 6'1'' and 232 pounds and looks to be every bit of that.

At least give the fans a good show on Canada Day

Like ive been saying, keep Miles in the damn rotation.  This kid has been nails all season.  Tell Max to go to the bullpen or kick rocks lol.

His stuff was electric today. He even hit 99 with his fastball.

I do worry about his innings though. He's turning into quite the asset and we want him healthy for next year. Has never thrown more than 10 innings in any season since he debuted in pro ball 4 years ago.

Hes a Rule 5 pick and we still have World Series aspirations.  You obviously work with him to see how hes feeling but ride the hot hand while you can.

Straw has been a solid contributor this year.

Straw may end up with more Hrs than Vladdy. What a valuable player.

Not surprised you don’t care about this young man’s health (or life) moving forward. You’ve always had questionable morals (usually involving truthfulness and/or courage).

What’s shocking is that you said we still have World Series aspirations after subjecting us to your daily barrage of doomer ********.

This dude may have top of the rotation stuff. Just because he was acquired essentially for free this doesn't erase his potential future value such that the team should ruin him.

I don't know if everybody understands what the Jays could have here in Spencer Miles

He has four pitches, if you count the two different fastballs (which you should) and seems to have plus command. He has a demon sinker and a great GB%. He has a some weapons to attack LHB given the command deeper arsenal, even if the changeup isn't a thing (yet?)

He can go a lot of different ways with his approach and career but, if he can somehow stay healthy, he has a chance to be great. There just aren't a lot of RHSP who can pair groundballs and strikeouts. The ones that do become front of the rotation guys. Normally there is a big tradeoff and the 55% groundball guys become sort of boring in the K department (e.g. Stroman).

Even if Miles does end up losing some Ks if he is eating innings, because the velo comes down or whatever, and he improves nothing with his bag of pitches, I don't see why he would be worse than say SP Clay Holmes. He already may have more weapons than CH.

If he can hold most of that velo and/or find a changeup, then we are looking at a possible SP2 or better. I don't know what the comp is. Some kind of Logan Webb, prime McCullers, Roy Halladay hybrid. Paul Skenes with better movement profile on the fastball. The best pitcher in history.

And I have a lot of confidence in the organization's chances at finding him some kind of splitter or change

Yeah, Spencer Miles has been a revelation thus far.  Will the Jays continue to stretch him out though?  And once stretched out will he have the same success?  If he is truly a SP2/3 in the making, prudence says they have to limit his innings (~ 100 ip max).

2027 Rotation

Cease, MIles, Yesavage, Ponce, Skubal (yes, I think it's possible) and if not lets get free agent Chris Sale in the off season then.

I'm trying really hard not to let myself get too excited about Miles but he is making that very difficult.

If we play this right and it works out, it would be massive for this team's future.

Baseball's an emotional game.  95% of my posts are during the heat of the game in the Game Thread.

You and a few others go through those messages after the game where you can collect your thoughts. In hindsight.  Its pretty much an apples to oranges comparison lol.

I stopped reading after "seems to have plus command"

This exactly

his Location+ is 107, that would place him top 20 in the majors if he qualified, exactly same as Gausman.

He has to start moving forward

I don’t see why they couldn’t start Miles moving forward. The Jays’ staff has done a good job keeping pitchers healthy, and it’s not like they’re going to ride him hard down the stretch by having him throw 100 pitches every outing. They can be strategic with when and how they use him to help manage his innings. Plus, they probably want to find out whether he can be a legitimate starter for them next season.

Rotation right now:

Cease
Gausman
Yesavage
Bieber
Miles

If Bieber is healthy the rest of the way, that’s a pretty solid rotation for the second half. And who knows - the Jays could still add another starter at the deadline.

Then, once the postseason comes around, there’s a decent chance Miles isn’t even used in a short series unless it’s out of the bullpen.
