Wins are secondary. That's how cursed this place is. Terminator and Stangstag 1 1
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Hoffman, Rogers and Varland just to get through the 7th and 8th and trailing by a run. Sheesh.

RA Whiffleball Verified Member Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Well, we are going to find out soon enough if Popkins was this genius we all thought he was, or whether last year was just a fluke, and the opposition has made the necessary adjustments.

I made a perfectly innocuous statement that Barger has potential to add some much needed thump to the lineup once he's locked in at the plate. There is literally nothing to attack in this statement. This was countered with a bunch of strawman style arguments about how I was saying Barger was a savior, or that it I was suggesting it was guaranteed that he would immediately hit to his ceiling. That poster obviously isn't interested or even capable of rationally discussing opinions that run counter to his without pivoting to logical fallacies in reply. If there was single poster on this board who was going to defend that garbage it's no big surprise that it turned out to be you riding in to white knight for this antisocial buffoon. I don’t think anyone is saying your original point was unreasonable. Saying Barger has the potential to add some needed thump to the lineup is perfectly fair. I agree with that. The pushback is more about how these discussions seem to turn into absolutes. Someone can like Barger’s upside and still point out that there are reasons to be cautious. That doesn’t mean they’re saying you called him a savior, and it also doesn’t mean they’re attacking the fanbase for hoping he helps. My point was simply that there’s room for both opinions: Barger has real power and could give the lineup a boost, but he’s also still a young hitter with flaws that pitchers can exploit. That’s not anti-Barger, anti-Jays, or “wishful thinking” in either direction. It’s just a balanced view. And honestly, if the complaint is that people aren’t having rational discussions, then immediately turning around and calling people “antisocial buffoons” or accusing others of “white knighting” doesn’t exactly help the conversation either. It just turns a pretty normal baseball debate into another personal back-and-forth. Spanky__99 and RA Whiffleball 1 1
