Blue Jays Minor League Highlights Thread

Parker 3-4 with 2 doubles in last night's game. OPS in High A up to .952... SSS still at High A but ya can't hate that he hasn't slowed down at all. Should be due for his 1st High A HR in the next game or so.

Man Jake Cook is turning his season around in real time right now. If this continues and up the levels he could be a breakout prospect considering his position and athleticism.

I’ll need to see if I can find the tweet but more people are starting to think he might stick at short. He has elite work ethic apparently.

Maybe the Jays do too and thus were OK dealing Nimmala for a controllable top of the rotation starter.

July: .823

August so far: .890  in his last 7 games he has 12 hits, 3 of them HRs , also adding 2 doubles and a triple. 

Not bad for a guy who only had all of 280 PAs in college ball since switching from being a pitcher. the normal age/level curve doesn't matter as much here.

20 year old Troy Guthrie has strung 3 good starts in a row now after getting beat up a bit in his 1st 4  after going up to Vancouver.

If Cook finds a way to add power to his game this dramatically raises his potential ceiling. I've been following his progress closely in recent months as he managed to significantly reduce his strikeout rate while producing far more hits. The power was largely missing in the successful July but he's turned up the heat in recent games with the power surge.

For sure. Word is he's already an elite defender in CF, runs faster than a thoroughbred and can make good contact but yeah, needs reps to make those tools turn into skills, and then results. 

Might end up being nothing, but they have to start somewhere. seeing the improved numbers month over month is nothing but a positive sign.

The fact he's healthy and throwing consistently is the real win. dude basically lost his first 3+ seasons to injury after being drafted.

It certainly seems as if something clicked in early July. He had a bit of a tough start to his professional career as he was striking out too damn much with a nearly 28% K rate and anemic 78 wRC+ into early July. He's found a nice groove then with a bit of a reduction to the strikeout rate down to 23% and produced an overall 135 wRC+. The recent power development is a very encouraging sign as well as he's produced 4 doubles, 3 triples and 4 home runs over his last 125 PA. He'll need to find a way to produce better exit velocities as he's only produced an average 84.3 MPH during this time. It would be cool if MLB were eventually able to provide swing speeds for minor leaguers at some point in the future so we could get a better read of the improvements over time when the goal is to coax out more power from a prospect.

Yeah I wonder why they don't include swing speed in the minor league statcast search when virtually everything else is there. 

Highest EV is 105.6

1 tracked batted ball in May over 100mph

2 tracked batted balls in June over 100mph

5 in July

so far 4 in August.

He's another dude I've been following. I'm encouraged that he's finally healthy enough to pitch some innings as he's barely been able to take the mound in his career. The velocity isn't anything to write home about but his recent start saw him averaging 93 MPH on the sinker while touching 95 MPH. The slider appears to be generating a solid amount of whiffs and is rated his best stuff pitch by TJSTATS with a 111 rating. Barriera has an odd fastball shape as it possesses a surprisingly low 6.3 iVB rating. Hopefully Sliderguy can eventually chime in to offer a few insights as to how Barriera's arsenal would play in higher levels of the minors and hopefully MLB some day if he makes it in any capacity.

Also, I know he's likely a nothing burger, but Peyton "The Iowa Meat Truck" Williams is up to AAA. 

Dude is a walking land mass. His 1st AAA HR about a week ago went 430 with an EV of 108.1

When he makes contact, balls get crushed. Contact is kinda the problem though...

Aaron Parker - 23 y/o catcher in New Hampshire just hit his 17th HR of the year, more than doubling last year's total in Vancouver in the same # of ABs. He's listed at 5'7" and 210. Was a college savings pick in the 6th round in 2024 and signed below slot, jumped right in to Dunedin that same year, all last year at Vancouver and was pretty forgettable. Still, pushed up to AA for the start of 2026 and has been solid all season long. Had a weak April power wise but has a .500 SLG or better every month since, OPS has gone up every month.  

From 2025 in Vancouver to AA in 2026:

Strikeout rate? up from 19.6% to 31.2%

Walk rate up from 7.6% to 12.9%

ISO up from .153 to .213 and SLG from .386 to .472

wRC+ from 90 to now over 120. 

Pretty much tracks with his pre-draft scouting report of "defined by high bat speed and raw power, generating impressive exit velocities and hard-hit rates despite a high-maintenance swing featuring a large leg kick. He showed excellent collegiate production, slashing .379/.460/.632 with 12 home runs in 2024, though scouts note he can expand the strike zone and has some contact questions. 

Defensive Profile:  quick hands and an average arm that throws with good carry. 

From Baseball Prospectus a few weeks ago: 

A sixth-round selection in 2024 out of UC Santa Barbara, Parker is enjoying a breakout offensive season in Double-A, posting an .857 OPS through his first 47 games. There’s still some swing-and-miss concerns, with the K-rate currently north of 30%, but Parker’s ability to impact the ball and defensive ability behind the dish could earn him at-bats in Toronto in the very near future.

Already profiling like a pretty solid backup even if the defense hasn't taken a step forward. Under the radar break out candidate ??

That would be disappointing.  That offensive profile probably doesn't play at 1st or COF.

I searched around a bit and cannot find anything about his defensive acumen at all. Thats usually a good thing but for a forgettable underslot college pick theres not really many eyeballs on him in the prospect rankings community.

HR tonight was 115 mph ev and 443 feet according to some dude on twitter
