Steve Drumwright Jays Centre Editor Posted Monday at 06:32 PM Posted Monday at 06:32 PM Still trying to replenish depth after being smacked with a handful of key injuries, the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday acquired infielder Lenyn Sosa from the Chicago White Sox. In exchange, the Jays sent 18-year-old minor-league outfielder Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash to the White Sox. OFFICIAL: We’ve acquired INF Lenyn Sosa from the White Sox in exchange for Minor League OF Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room, RHP Shane Bieber has been transferred to the 60-day IL. [image or embed] — Toronto Blue Jays (@bluejaysbot.bsky.social) April 13, 2026 at 10:01 AM To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed starter Shane Bieber (right elbow inflammation) was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Another move will be needed before Tuesday's series opener vs. the Milwaukee Brewers to get Sosa on the 26-man roster. The 26-year-old Sosa brings a little bit of pop with him, having hit 22 homers and 75 RBIs last year with a .264/.293/.434 slash line in a career-best 140 games played. It was a breakout season for Sosa, who was off to a slow start this year (7-for-33, .212/.212./.303). Sosa can play all around the infield except for shortstop, but is primarily a second baseman. His defense is considered subpar. The Jays recently acquired second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald, who had been designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants. Rich was drafted by the Jays in the 17th round of last year's draft, but has yet to make his pro debut. View full rumor

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted Monday at 06:53 PM Posted Monday at 06:53 PM Diamond in the rough... Good pick up for low cost.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted Monday at 08:39 PM Posted Monday at 08:39 PM Don’t really know where they plan to play him. Unless they are pulling the plug on Okamoto at 3B already.

So, most likely DH until Springer gets back and then assess from there.

I don’t really understand that either considering they say Springer isn’t likely gone long and they brought up Eloy for that exact purpose lol. Team is starting to have a bunch of middling players for limited spots. I guess when everyone gets healthy the bench will be a little more potent. But tons of redundancy overall.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted Monday at 09:06 PM Posted Monday at 09:06 PM The roster fit is a little puzzling but I wouldn't worry too much about that bc they gave up very little. Rich is a 17th rounder who signed for slot. The PTBNL or cash considerations are probably based on Sosa's playing time? If he doesn't play much the Jays probably don't have to give up much more. If everyone is back they could option Lukes and cut bait with Eloy and make Sosa fit. Or they could try and trade Straw. Or they could simply cut Sosa and they are out a 17th round pick. Or this team is cursed and no one ever gets healthy and Sosa sticks around that way.
Laika Community Moderator Posted Monday at 09:12 PM Posted Monday at 09:12 PM 2024 + 2025 combined, Lenyn Sosa had an xwOBA of .324 Ranks 123rd out of 272 hitters with at least 600 PA in that timeframe That's a viable bat. Only 26. They are looking for someone who can actually barrel it up. When Springer got hurt they had to sub MYLES STRAW at DH, that says enough right there. The bench only has a f***ing pinch hitter worth a potato on it when Davis Schneider doesn't start the game. Orgfiller 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted Tuesday at 04:47 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:47 PM Jeremiah Jackson in Baltimore is a good example of why you pick up someone like Lenyn Sosa up, even if he is flawed Jackson has 1.2 fWAR in 62 career games. That's as much as Jackson Holliday in his 209 games, and perhaps enough production to take Coby Mayo's at bats when Holliday comes back. It is easy to focus on arm, speed, defense, and bad K-BB skills but important to still recognize that not all tools are created equal. A cromulent combination of hit + power can carry an entire player profile, even without extreme power or perternatural hitting ability. Like, 50 hit 55 power can be good enough sometimes. Laika Community Moderator Posted Wednesday at 03:34 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:34 PM Lenyn Sosa gets some early flowers for having a mature debut at bat, and a huge hit.

He was awesome yesterday. Ignited the comeback with a pinch hit single and then taking third on the Varsho blooper. He was even laughing when everyone was sweating bullets during the review. Can't faze Venezuelans. Stangstag 1
