Toronto wanted Bo back just at 2B, but the Mets gave him a 47M dollar sabbatical, haha. This really is a nothing-burger. I do recall another rumor that popped up years ago that Bo offered to move off of shortstop for Didi Gregorius of all people. I believe that Bo would have zero issues with switching positions if it ultimately helped the team win more games, and you need to look no further than his offer to play second base in the World Series as proof of this. At the end of the day there were teams that valued Bo at a higher value than the Blue Jays did and this was nothing more than an amicable split where both sides felt it was best to move on. I don't think the Blue Jays front office was interested in Bo at that price but this is something we'll never know for certain.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26 Posted February 26 That's not how it works idiot, hence the deal to NY. It must hurt carrying around that brain. You just proved my point. 😅

Lots of reasons to want a star player to be happy for one year even if you probably aren't retaining them. If switching positions causes him to play bad in his walk year, then he’s a loser

Joltin Joe Verified Member Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Bo had great bat but was a bad shortstop. I'm glad we moved on. I always wanted a good glove at short.

Mets swooped in because of the slow offseason they had to that point and since they were getting criticism all around. As well, they missed out re-signing Alonso, signing Tucker, and other big names. Most importantly, they wanted to block the Phillies from landing Bo, which is why they signed him at all costs, even though logistically it didn't make sense given their roster construction. jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Regardless of what people think of Bo, you should have picked up his jersey from the Jays Shop a couple weeks ago. Getting a Nike Limited jersey for $90 was a steal!

Phillies GM thought the deal was done with Bo. According to Dombrowski, Bo had said he would sign if the Phillies agreed to 7/200 ... they did, and he even called Realmuto's agent, who at that point hadn't signed yet, and he told him they were likely going in another direction. So, effectively they had an agreement in principle and just hadn't started signing paperwork before the Mets called with a dump truck full of cash. Story makes sense since Realmuto signed within a few hours of the Mets and Bo announcing their deal.

If the Jays matched it, he'd stay in Hogtown. Also... 🖕 jaysblue 1
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Yeah Philly was publicly pissed at Bichette for backing out of a deal they presumably agreed to. The Mets thought they had Tucker, Cohen made that stupid tweet that got his fanbase’s hopes up, Tucker signed with the Dodgers instead, and then the Mets shifted. Bo backed out of the Philly deal to sign a (much better) deal with the Mets.
