So this Boyle guy pitching tomorrow averaged 3 innings and 5 runs for 3 starts before we saw them, until he put up a 6 inning 0 ER against us.

He is bad though right?

Boyle has nasty stuff, but poor command. He had good command in the start against the Jays.

Don’t worry he’ll get Groundbollo to ground every at bat.

Just win 2 more and it’s irrelevant what the Yankees do. They need help not the Blue Jays.

From your lips to God's ears!!! It's only right that the Jays finish this thing off, get Bo back and try to win this thing at full strength!

We should be losing. The umpire changed the entire complexion of that inning.

Im convinced Hoffman would’ve walked 3 in a row if the Ump didn’t help bail him out. Jesus man, terrible command today

Well he threw a lot of pitches and wasn't particularly great yesterday. So of course they put him out there with first place on the line and no backup plan apparently.

I hate that Hoffman is allowed to completely melt down and blow a game before the manager even gets another arm up in the pen. It was apparent from the first hitter that Hoffman had no command of his offspeed pitches as he was nowhere near the zone, and he benefited from a lot of help from the home plate umpire or else this would have been a different outcome.

Ever since the Dodgers meltdown, they should have a backup plan for Hoffman but they never do.

Like im fine with them giving him save ops, we don exactly have a better option. And sometimes he looks really good. But when he looks bad like that and starts walking the yard, you need to start warming someone

Schneider has an itchy trigger finger on every other reliever but infinite patience when it comes to Hoffman.

We just have to hope Hoffman puts it together at the right time (like f***ing now!) because he's increased the cardiovascular mortality rate in Toronto over the last little bit.

Hoffman is not going to magically figure something out come playoff time. If the score permits I fully expect Dominguez to be the closer today. Thereafter it will have to be closer by committee (Hoffman/Dominguez) based on who performs better. There is no wait and see and there are no tomorrow's come playoff time. I think Schneider realizes this after yesterday's near blown save.

This isn't the time to consider feelings and/or loyalties. Perform or get out of the way.

I hope you're right.  I'm with you.

Hopefully you are right. JS and the Org can be stubborn

Since May 1, Hoffman has a -1.1 WAR with 27 saves (7 BS), and a 6-7 record.

There's a monster sample size to suggest that he's been hurting the team for 5 months, and they haven't changed anything. They won't use him today since they have avoided using him 3 days in a row all season, but no chance he's being taken out of the closer role now, IMO. I hope I'm wrong on that and Schneider uses matchups in the 9th inning more often, but I don't think he's that type of manager.

Hoffman tends to go through periods of struggles but it's not really true that he's exclusively pitched badly since May 1 as a quick glance at the numbers would suggest. He tends to do a bit of Jekyll and Hyde routine, and when he's bad it's like max level bad.

His May struggles alone were bad enough to paint a picture that his entire season has been bad as they drag the numbers down, but he's produced extended periods of success with some awful periods mixed in.

May 1-31

10 IP 13.5 ERA 8.64 FIP -0.7 FWAR

June 1-Aug 22

27 2/3 IP 2.28 ERA 3.65 FIP 0.5 FWAR

Aug 23-30

3 1/3 IP 21.60 ERA 21.14 FIP -1.1 FWAR

Aug 31-present

11 2/3 IP 0.77 ERA 4.77 FIP 0.0 FWAR

Hoffman has generally been getting the job done in September but there's a definite luck component. The stuff and command are both poor recently which doesn't lend much in the way of confidence of him being reliable in the post season to say the least.
