If we had a seven or eight game lead that would be one thing. We've been a .500 team over our past 30 games. Both the Yankees and especially the Red Sox have been better over that stretch. The other significant issue are the remaining schedules. Theirs are objectively better. We have serious bullpen issues and no way of fixing it anymore outside of calling up Yesavage. That's our one silver bullet. Assuming it even works. You could say whatever the hell you want about me, but it's seriously concerning and we can certainly see a scenario where they both pass us. neverbeenhere 1

Ziggy Halladay Verified Member Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 We need to pitch inside more with Varland. Try to hit some of their hitters in their hands. We are always pitching in the outside of the plate. Hit some fingers and hands and heads the way teams do to us.
keggy Verified Member Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 Yariel is basically Berrios for one inning at a time. Management needs to push him down the leverage order

Why can't you declare a positions with equivocating? I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest with you I'm trying to tell you this is a team that may be running out of steam and may not have enough to finish the season in first place and I've clearly laid out the reasons why I think that is. You can argue those reasons if you want, or not. Spanky__99 and neverbeenhere 1 1

I was unaware that this was a betting site. I simply laid out the reasons why this team might be running out of steam. Likewise I laid out the reasons why the competition has a very real chance to surpass us. Because you know, it's a message board where we discuss these things.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 The bullpen is certainly a concern at the moment, but I think a large part of this is just unfortunate timing of all of the leverage arms slumping at the same time. There is too much talent in the pen for this level of struggles to continue for the rest of the season as a whole but it’s absolutely a massive concern in the short term. This kind of reminds me of the excessive level of doom posting in April with the offense when a nearly team wide slump led to some awful offensive numbers over the first month of the season before they collectively reversed their fortunes over the next 4 months.
