This team would be a contender after adding a #1 starting pitcher.

I agree 100%

The wild card series is a best of three

Division is a best of five format

then League championship and World Series a best of 7

Still a long ways to go but before the deadline, make a bold move by expecting the worse, just making it to the Wild Card series at a minimum.

that being said, an Ace who can without a doubt gives this team the higher chance to WIn game 1 is a MUST.

Scherzer can be that guy but his health from here on out is like walking on eggshells.

they need that no.1 guy to bump down the rotation.

1. “Ace”

2. Scherzer

3. Bassitt

then pick one of Gausman, Berrios and maybe Lauer

but first things first, win the Wild Card series at a minimum or Division Series as the better outcome to end the regular season

Easy yes for us. Pirates give a hard no, they’d want at least one stud in AAA/close to the majors.

Problem with trading Skenes, or anyone like him, you virtually never win the trade. He's already the best case scenario outcome for anyone you get back.

Skenes wont be dealt yet, but if Pittsburgh was even mildly in the mood to do it ... Yesavage, Nimmala, Rojas, Roden, Stephen.... thats probably closer to what a realistic return might be, but still feels light given how much control he has left.

Pirates have a cheap owner so $800k or whatever the min salary is now for an elite player with 4 years of control left doesn’t resemble a player that they’d want to move. Two years from now, possibly, but not now. They’ll probably looking to dump Hayes and Reynolds more than anything.
