Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 As much as I like Duran, I get pretty squeamish at the idea of paying big on a reliever. Could the Blue Jays Overpay for Jhoan Duran at the Trade Deadline? - Twins - Twins Daily TWINSDAILY.COM Toronto’s history of deadline aggression and Minnesota’s premium relief ace could be a perfect match, if the price is right. jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 Would the Twins trade Joe Ryan as well 😅 Duran definitely would be a nice arm for the pen. Louis Varland as well! Harrison Bader would be a nice RHB addition for the outfield. Do the Twins want to get rid of the Buxton contract?Â

Relatively small, but a chance. Duran is the most likely reliever to be traded. Varland has too much control. Bader is gone if they sell. Buck has a no-trade clause, and I'd personally be furious if they traded him. jaysblue 1
Nexii Verified Member Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 I feel like MIN will want too much, they aren't quite out of it yet (24% playoff odds) We do need elite pitching, though

Not sure they have the pitching with Lopez and Ober all on the IL. They're 3.5 GB behind Tampa for the last WC spot with both Seattle and Texas ahead of them as well. Impossible catching the Tigers. It's going to be tough. Unless they get back to above 5 or so games above .500 by the end of July, maybe.Â

I agree with the Boss on this one. I wouldn't want to give up a ton for a reliever. They are really volatile. Plus, I think the market overrates hard throwing relievers and underrates low velo guys. I'd target effective low velo guys for that reason. I would stock up on interesting low velo guysÂ

I would stock up on interesting low velo guys I don't care if they're high velo so much as whether or not they miss bats, and how likely they are to continue to do so. If those two things are roughly equal, I'll take the harder thrower as the tiebreaker. The latter is obviously harder to predict for us couch-sitters since we can only look at past numbers and current evaluations like stuff+ and location+ and try to guess at how their performance might chnage, but the lab nerds probably have a better idea on that. One thing I know for sure... this staff loves pitchers that have a splitter.
