Davis v Turnbull

SP matchup favours them, lol.

Civale v Berrios

Pretty even matchup on the mound.

TBD v Bassitt

The only SP matchup favouring Toronto

Sticks need to be live to sweep!

I know Berrios is frustrating and inconsistent, but a Civale vs Berrios matchup is not even lol. Berrios is going on like nearly 500 innings of ~3.70 ERA ball, he must be doing something to keep getting these results while blowing chunks every 5-6 or so starts and having god awful peripherals year in and out.

I remember the story on Chris Archer was that the results don't match the peripherals because he was only a 2-pitch starter.

I wonder if the inverse is true with Berrios since he has 4 pitches that he throws regularly and a 5th pitch that he'll mix in occasionally.

Or it could be that he is simply benefitting from our elite defense. In each of the past 3 years he is beating his peripherals and that seems to coincide with when the team started emphasizing defense.

High pitchability shitballers like him that don't K a lot of guys probably benefit more than most with elite defense.

There's probably some combination of factors here cause Gausman's numbers have not benefited (not that he's a shitballer but that's he way underperforming his peripherals and is most a two pitch guy).

He's also a plus defender himself so that likely lowers his ERA a bit right there.

David Martin to the IL

Pretty big for us. If there's one thing a bad team is lacking it's depth, particularly on the pitching side of things. RosterResource on fangraphs now has their SP rotation down to 3 active starters lol.

Sandlin is finally back.

Now they need to dfa Green

That could become a possibility once Yimi is ready to return.

Yeah Green is definitely on thin ice.

Not only is Yimi expected to get into a minor league game next week but Burr is in AAA now too.

And if Scherzer returns he will bump a bullpen guy down too.

It's crazy how homer prone Green has become. His stuff is down a bit across the board but not so much that it can explain the home run rate essentially doubling from an already problematic amount from the 2024 season.

We really need to get a frontline starter at the trade deadline.

It is kind of scary to think that if the playoffs started tomorrow who would we start in game 1.   Atkins may have to sell Barger to get what he wants.

Naw, he'd probably trade Nimmala before Barger at this point. At least trading Nimmala you could just resign Bo and for sure have the IF covered between Barger, Clement, Gimenez and Clement, all much more known quantities at this point.

Nimmala is still a long shot maybe at this point. High A guys that rake flame out fairly regularly.
