Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 Since Vladdy hasn't really hit his stride yet anyway, maybe an extra day off would do him some good, idk
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 Just move Vladdy back to the 3 spot that he seems to love and rotate guys into the 2 spot until one works the best. Personally, I think one doesn't exist on this roster but we don't need to go through that again lol. Gimenez probably gets first shot at it. SS Bo 2B Gimenez 1B Vlad DH Santandar Rf Springer CF Varsho C Kirk 3B Clement LF Roden M.E. 1

I don't think it would be productive to move him into the slot reserved for the team's best hitter until he at least shakes the current slump.

Ya, this roster doesn't have many options considering all our lefties are mediocre hitters. I was screaming for this team to prioritize hitting for a reason because it'll hold us back in the longrun. All the pressure goes to the starting staff and we get to nitpick Schneider's bullpen decisions yet again.

Yeah it's nice that we finally have some more left-handed hitters on the team, but none of them are particularly good. I think most of us are hopeful that Wagner could be that guy or maybe Roden, but that's just us hoping. Jays24 1

Barger has a skillset that the org does not like (high K's) but it's what the team actually needs more of (power, high exit velo). The Jays have a whole bunch of players who hit line drives and make contact, but it's not optimal if 90% of the lineup has that skillset. You need more diversity. That's why when they rested Vlad that day, you pretty much had to hope for a Tony HR, otherwise it was "pray for enough singles to get runs across". Varsho might be an average-ish hitter, but he's a much needed piece to this lineup just for the off chance he can pull one out of the park.

Well yeah it would bring more balance to the lineup but that's not ideal either. Yeah it's nice to have guys who can run into one from time to time but the fact that they are otherwise terrible hitters also means a lot of killed rallies. It would be nice to actually have some guys who can hit for decent average and pop 20 home runs with a bunch of doubles along the way. But beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Honest question, do you think you're literally the only person who can see that Jays are in need of power? It's not as easy as snapping your fingers and just signing whomever they want. Spanky99 1
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 I like how Santander gets an ovation and a tip of the cap, while Sportsnet is busy showing a replay of Vlad running to 1B while this is going on.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 Second base is free to take. Take it.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 IMO that's a stupid time to try to steal 2nd.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 Wagner really battled that ab. Got Sugano up to 27 pitchers after the first.

Yeah there's no perfect answer in house. You can at least dream a little bit on Barger's exit velocity, hard hit rate, barrel rate, etc. The upside on Wagner in particular seems very low with a medium sized floor due to lack of position, and Roden will depend on how much power he can eventually generate, but either way they are too similar in profile. Adding a bit more volatility (lower floor) but with power you can dream on a bit seems like a better solution for this lineup. Ultimately the chances of something better than a 2 WAR player in any of those scenarios is probably small. Masterbather 1
