Well, they're not a bad team, and they have to spend to get back into revenue sharing.

Rooker is 30 years old and has made league minimum his whole career and is still subject to three more arb years. 

Can't blame him for playing it safe and securing his family forever. One injury and it's gone!

They'd prefer not to spend but they have to, otherwise they could lose access to revenue sharing. At the end of the day, John Fisher isn't going to change his stripes.

But also, good for Rooker. He bounced around for several years before almost falling out of the sport.

This is fair for both sides. On the surface it seems like a steal for the A’s, but Booker still had a lot of cheap years of control and is 30 years old as a DH only player. One season of regression or some age related decline as he enters free agency and he’s lucky to see half of that figure over the rest of his career.

Yeah given his age I figured Rooker was closer to FA but he won't be until he's 33! This was his best chance to cash in.

Legit happy for Rooker to get a bag, seems like a genuine dude. He made a huge adjustment to shorten his path to the ball. Whoever figured that out (coach/himself etc) made his career.
